ZED Fares Question

Sun Oct 08, 2006 3:30 am

Very simple question really... are the distance bands the actual mileage flown, point to point between cities or the same mileages as used for FF programs?
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Depends on the airline. Typically the mileage on a zed is "block" mileage, simmilar to block time (might not be exact, but it's pretty darn close). Some airlines throw incentive miles to thier upper tier FF pax, and the mileage is calculated differnetly in a different system after the fact. But generally for us scrubs, what it is is what it is.

Zed miles are pretty much actual distance between cities and as long as an airline is in the zed program then they will be treated the same.

FF miles however seem to have little relevance on anything (other than higher numbers spent gets you a bit further), and vary wildly depending on the carrier.

Did anyone ever notice that AF fixed its ZED tables on its system? they are a few dollars higher than the universal ZED tables, and some have been refused on AF with ZED tickets cause it was off by 3 dollars. The sad part is the OAL cannot manually fix a ZED zone fare to match AF. I had this experience a few weeks ago.

I've noticed that they pretty much mirror registered TPMs. If you have a recent OAG you can see which band a certain sector will fall in, as they now include TPMs next to the destination.

Hmm, but as long there is a ZED Agreement with your airline and AF they must accept you onboard or they make a note about specials with their agreement.

or, do you mean that your ticket was not issued on AF and you wanted to travel on AF. That would be different story.

I have to admit Inever had problems with AF.

Ohhh, it is time to get me a ZED for GIG in Nov!!!!!!!  Big grin

...and yes, despite it is horrible ( seatingwise) I fly AF!  Smile

What was the date of the AF agreement compared to the one you purchased your ticket under. ZED fares changed by a few dollars on Sept 01, 06. I recently went through all of them that CO has an agreement with and except for BA, they all seemed the same.

I did the purchase in August, not September and the updating was recent, I guess AF went early at updating.

Your tickets must be done by your own airline, mine are purchased at my own ticket counter, I dont think you can just go to AF and do it yourself. Its your companies job to provide the ticket for you as the agreement.

Very simple, they are quoted as per the IATA Mileage also used for far calculation. Some airlines might use with their FFP also the IATA Mileage , others don't. In most or even all cases, ZED mileage is not actual flown mileage.

I also found an example. IATA mileage between ZRH and LCY is 483. Between ZRH and LHR it is the same, also 483. Actualy flown mileage or the actual distance between ZRH and LHR is of course different to LCY. Pricing wise it is the same as per IATA Fares.
