CIA Knew Of '76 Cubana Airlines Bombing Beforehand

Tue Oct 10, 2006 11:52 am

Not sure of how credible it is, but looks like he's telling the truth. If so, it's ridiculous that they did nothing to stop the bombing.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - An anti-Castro militant now in a Texas jail warned the CIA months before the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner that fellow exiles were planning such an attack, according to a newly released U.S. government document.

Hmm, and ironically Cuba is still on our State Sponsors of Terrorism list. I'm not saying we sponsored him to blow up an airliner, but I do know that if the shoe was on the other foot and Cuba would be holding a guy that was responsible for blowing up an American airliner we'd raise some hell. I wonder what will come out of this.

Well, that's just the thing. It is usually only terrorism when it's happening to you.

Many things could fall under the definition of terrorism.

Given the fact that the CIA was so involved with Anti Castro exiles in Florida (not to mention their overall track record in offing political rulers they didn't like), I wouldn't be at all surprised if they indirectly helped plan it. Luis Posada Carriles has long been rumoured to hold extensive CIA connections.
It is not enough to be rude; one must also be incorrect.

There's an article on this topic in this month's Atlantic. It's subscribers-only, and I haven't read it myself yet, so I can't post any interesting excerpts, but I'd recommend subscribing to the magazine to just about anyone, but particularly to readers of this forum. In the last few years, they've had fascinating, well-written accounts of ValuJet 592, MS 990, and the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.

The sad thing is that many of the scumbags responsible for this terrorist attack live freely and rather wealthy in Miami, Florida.
I say send there them back to Cuba and let Fidel punish them!

It's rediculous? We've admitted to 8 attempts on the life of Cuba's president. We sponsored one invasion/coup attempt on cuba, we've all but cut them out of the western economy. Fair to say, the US government, the CIA especially, loathes Cuba. Not surprising at all. No nation on Earth has sponsored as many Coup de Etats, revolutions, or assasinations of national leaders than we have. The CIA makes the KGB look ethical and responsible. Safe to say, I am very happy the CIA is on my country's side. They do whatever it takes.

Well, this headline isn't particularly biased or anything  sarcastic

For all those who haven't bothered to read, the "intelligence" provided by this informant was regarding a plot to blow up an airliner from Panama to Cuba - and shortly thereafter a bomb was found on a CU flight from Panama after it failed to detonate. This attempted attack happened months before the bombing referred to in the headline.
