Rear Airstair Question On DC-9,MD-80,90 And 717 Ac

Tue Jul 04, 2000 4:00 pm

Which airines that own DC-9, MD-80, MD-90 and 717 aircraft still have the rear airstairs? Does air tran have them on their DC09s and their new 717s. How about on TWA's 717s and their MD aircraft along with Legend's DC-9s?

All DC-9 and MD-80/90 series aircraft originally manufactured with airstairs (which they all were, I believe) still have them. I am unaware of any airline requesting these be deleted, or that it was an option to do so. The 717 is the first in this series of aircraft (BASIC design) NOT to have the rear airstairs, unless I am mistaken.

Does the 717 really not have rear airstairs? What a shame. I'd have thought that in keeping with the 717's rugged, go to any airport image, it'd have airstairs so that pax could board the aircraft without a stairs from the ground.

I believe they all have them, as deleting them, especially from the older models, would disrupt the integrity of the aircraft. The rear airstair is what made the DC-9 able to serve any small scale airport.

That is ture about the DC-9s, and only the -30 on up have the rear Stairs, but all of them have the fold out Stairs that deploy when the pax door is opened, if there are no Jetways. I thought that would be some help

No AA aircraft have the forward door fold out stairs. Ex-QQ aircraft have the stairs, but they have been disabled.
