CO's "Island Hopper" Flight Crew Staffing

Sat Oct 14, 2006 5:13 am

While idling through CO's timetable, and dreaming about one day flying the "Island Hopper" from HNL-GUM via Majuro, Kwajalein, etc, I got to thinking: with the flight being over 14 hours from origin to final destination.....where do they do the crew swaps on this route?

Second question: sometime in the past there was a rather detailed trip report, unfortunately not on this site, complete with pictures, etc. Anyone recall seeing it/provide a link?

They used to switch off in either Kosrae or Pohnpei. As of late though, they go straight through (i.e. HNL-GUM) with no crew swaps.

I found this Tom . . .
Island Hopper First Leg (by Zrs70 Jan 22 2005 in Trip Reports)?searchid=53858&s=Island+Hopper#ID53858

And this:
RE: Continental Micronesia's IslandHopper! (by Catholic2006 Aug 1 2003 in Trip Reports)?searchid=34768&s=Island+Hopper#ID34768

And I've done the ride . . . albeit a few years back . . . like 1997, and it's awesome. If I recall, Sabena332 also took this ride, perhaps he'll pop in here.

It's a long haul, but it's fun. Mostly because of the interesting places we stopped. Little specks in the middle of the ocean. Landing was interesting, lower, lower, lower, poof runway, poof landing!  scared

Take the trip if you get the chance.

I heard they take 4 pilots and a mechanic to operate throughout HNL-GUM.

They carry a mx rep, who usually gets off in MAJ, so they can sell that seat between MAJ and HNL and HNL-MAJ. There is also a 5th FA, so both the cockpit and cabin crews are augmented.
