Teamster Flight Attendants Reach Tentative Agreement With Comair
Friday October 13, 5:01 pm ET
Pact Would Secure Jobs, Cap Insurance Payments, Assist Carrier

WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Today representatives from Teamsters Union Local 513 and Comair Airlines reached a tentative agreement that strengthens workers' job security, caps health insurance payments and provides financial assistance to the company. Along with its parent company, Delta Airlines, Comair is restructuring under Chapter 11 protections.
"We recommend that our fellow flight attendants vote in favor of this proposal," said Connie Slayback, President of Local 513 in Florence, Kentucky and a Comair flight attendant. "We've been able to negotiate the terms of this consensual agreement."

The agreement, which the approximately 1,000 flight attendants will vote on by November 14, comes 11 months after the parties began negotiations, and follows two visits to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York.

"I applaud our flight attendants for taking a strong stand to protect their families and communities in the face of Comair's severe demands," said Jim Hoffa, Teamsters General President. "This agreement ensures that the flight attendants remain the best-paid flight attendants in the regional carrier industry."

If the flight attendants ratify the agreement, it will be imposed by the end of the year, dependent upon when Comair pilots and mechanics reach agreements with the Cincinnati-based carrier. The flight attendants' agreement would take effect sooner if the two groups and the company negotiate agreements before December 31.

Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States and Canada.

The MEC came to an agreement not the body of the FA's that has to vote on the TA, so I would not celebrate so early.

True but the MEC president said they recommended a vote for the agreement. They realize time to settle expired a long time ago.

the reality is, once the union agrees to a TA, it becomes very hard to ever strike. No judge is going to release the FAs to strike when their own union leadership has agreed to contractual terms even if the membership does vote it down. I believe this is why the judge has kept the NW FAs from striking. Hard to argue the need to strike when there is a TA on the table that the union has said is acceptable.
