KL Adding 2nd YYZ Flight?

Sat Oct 14, 2006 4:27 pm

I was reading in a post that was mysteriously deleted off the system that KLM plans to start 5x weekly service AMS-YYZ-AMS using B777-200 to compliment there existing daily B747-400 service...is this true?? Does anyone have a link or more info and when is this service due to begin??

The additinal service will operate 5 times weekly with B772ER as an evening departure from AMS, starting the end of April through the summer. Here is the schedule of this flight:

KL695 AMS YYZ 1820 2025 (B772, daily except Tue Thu)
KL696 YYZ AMS 2225 1135 (B772, daily except Tue Thu)

The existing flight KL691/692 will remain in the schedule unchanged, and should be operated mostly with a full passenger B744 although it is expected that the flight will also see the B74E combi now and then.

Interesting... Any plans to change the equipment on the YUL route?

Not that I'm in a hurry to see the MD-11 go - no other trans-atlantic flight ever takes off from the 7000ft runway 28  biggrin

AMS YUL is expected to remain operated with MD11 for the foreseeable future.

How come KL can fill a daily 744 and, presumably another 772 5x weekly while AC don't think more of that route than a 762 seasonal service?

Good for KL, but i'd REALLY like to see AC in AMS year round...

KLM does very nicely on the Toronto route due to our large Middle Eastern/African population. Whenever we get a new person in out class they always say "we stopped in Holland on the way here". lol

Onward connections from AMS which AC doesn't have.

Great to see the increase to (almost) double dailies for KL. Chances just increased in getting MD11 substitutions  Wink

There is very much traffic between AMS and YYZ in the summer, due to Ducth visiting family in Canada plus vacation traffic both ways. There are many Dutch emigrants living in Canada.

In summer, also MP and TS are offering AMS-YYZ flights. MP operates 3 weekly 763 flights, while TS offers 4x 310 service.

Canadians love KLM, especially ones with a European background. My grandparents are Greek, and for years they will only fly KLM to Athens to visit family, almost yearly. It's the same case for many others in the community.

Given that the MD11 isn't exactly the most reliable aircraft in the KLM longhaul fleet, I would doubt that there would be many MD11 substitution on the YYZ routes. Mostly, it is the MD11 being substituted at KLM...
