Sun Oct 15, 2006 4:06 am

Has anybody flown ATA's 737-800 to Hawaii? How was it?

We flew non-rev back HNL-ONT on the -800 and it wasn't bad at all. Same inflight entertainment as the 75's and the crew treated us very well.
Maintain 2300 until Boiler, cleared for the VOR-A approach, report BATLE inbound..

Just came back from my trip to Hawaii... Awful experience with ATA. If you're flying to Hawaii from the USA fly Aloha or Hawaiian... Airlines that matter! (no this low-cost-sell-evrything-nastyFA's joke of an airline)

SWABFA,

Are you ever positive (or at least not negative) about anything? Your profile and other posts betray that you likely are not. Next time, at least give enough color to your "awful experience" to allow your reader to conclude that you didn't get your money's worth.

Some people...

HA wasn't too bad, except Row 33. At least with HA, you're guaranteed to fly in a widebody from the mainland.

I'm still waiting for AS to start HI service.

Whether ATA is good or bad, they seem to be packing those 73H's from OAK. AQ is pretty much the same way.

First of all, if you're trying to make some kind of a point, why not make it in the thread headline, otherwise, what's your point? Plus, it says you're location is HNL, so what do you mean "Just came back from my trip to Hawaii?". Plus, if you want to contribute useful information, qualify your post with details not moronic two-sentence rants that are baseless.

Personally, I won't fly to Hawaii on anything smaller than a 767. But I also will pay more to fly on a bigger plane. I'd fly on ATAs L1011s in a second though but never, ever, on any narrowbody plane to Hawaii.

HA's service is definately better the ATAs. But my ATA experience was your standard 5 hour flight in coach. Nothing bad at all. Bring some snacks and a book/iPod/something and it goes bye just fine. And while there were many kids with their families everyone seems to be in a good mood as they are going or coming from vacation.

The rumor is that SWABFA lives with Kahala and
Malpensa in Hawaii. Same writing style anyway.

Just Kahala... Malpensa left to do some thrift store shopping and to dig into some trash cans... I don't remember where he got those tips....

When jet service to HNL began, the 707 & DC-8 were (and still are) narrow-bodies ... since the advent of the wide-bodies, we've all become jaded.

If someone asked me right now, if I'd want to ride a 707 (or DC-8) to the mainland again? Duh! No brainer! I'd be there early enough to get shots of the bird ... inside & out.

It's not the aircraft so much as the level of service ... AQ's 73W service to SNA was outstanding!

Well, I really did just get back from Hawaii, on ATA's OAK-HNL service, connecting on to LIH on AQ.

My reccomendations for flying TZ (only flown them 4 times) is to bring your snack and your own blanket. If you are flying their coach product, it costs $9.95 on board for a pillow/blanket combo, but you get to keep it. Other than that, as others have said, its your standard 5 hour flight.

If you can afford it, pay the $150.00 for the "Business Class" upgrade. Its well worth it. You get a bigger seat and better service. Plus, blankets and pillows are free (but you have to give them back). I upgraded myself on the return trip and was glad I did. Much easier to sleep. Plus, from what the FAs said, the Business Cabin is almost always deserted (there were 5 people on my flight). If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!

Is AQ's coach section on their -700's as cramped as I've heard they are? Of course, it's a matter of perspective.

This question is probably a bit irrelevant, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Has anyone tried the Hawaii services out of YVR on like Westjet, Harmony, or Air Pacific? Those are all on narrowbodies as well.

I had plenty of experience on DC-8s to HNL. Loved that reading light in the seatback in front of me...a big window, a hot meal, all on a four-holer! Narrowbodys' bygone era is much more intriguing than the current narrowbody selection.

But given the choices of today...I'd be looking to service...Hawaiian or Aloha...narrowbody or not.

ATA is a wonderful airline and their service to Hawaii is no exception. It's a pitty what happened to them, but that's just the fact of doing business post-9/11.

Some people, like SWABFA do not liek to be happy. The type of people that go out of their way to be miserable and force their misery and negativism onto other people. So don't take his word for ANYHTHING other than that!  Smile

Go Easy, Go ATA.
