Hijacker And Hijacked Meet After 25 Years.

Mon Oct 16, 2006 3:30 pm

Peter Duffy one of the hijackers who had hijacked an AI B707 from Seychelles after an unsuccessful coup attempt met the captain of that flight at his residence in Mumbai.

Quote:

"Hey, Peter, is that you?" shouted retired Air India (AI) captain U C Saxena as his eyes scanned a short, stocky man of Scottish origin, coming out of the domestic terminal on Saturday morning.

"That's me, mate," shot back Peter and the two embraced each other. South African ex-mercenary Peter Duffy finally caught up with retired pilot Saxena after 25 years of the hijacking of an AI Boeing 707 from the Indian Ocean island of Seychelles to Durban.

Duffy was one of the 44 mercenaries who barged into Saxena’s plane with 79 passengers and crew at the Victoria Mahe Airport and diverted the Mumbai-bound flight to South Africa.

The second link also has a video.
An airplane might disappoint any pilot but it'll never surprise a good one.

This is interesting but weird at the same time. Why would the hijacked receive the hijacker as if they were friends that haven't seen in a long time? Or was the captain involved or in some way made some kinda of friendship with this guy?

I think that if I were a mercenary and the army were behind me, then I would grab a plane rather than stand against a wall.

Perhaps the pilot would also do so.

I also understand that it was not a violent hijack.

I do not condone hijacking.

The TV channels had it as well, it made for a fairly interestiong story. Sadly, not all hijackings of Indian aircraft ended like this one.
