A lightweight Tu204, to replace all those tired Tu154s sounds like a sensible A321 alternative..
it's the bus to stansted (now renamed National Express a6 to ruin my username)

Quoting AirbusA6 (Thread starter):

I think this might be underpowered. How would they lighten the Tu-204 ? Sure, the engines would be lighter, but what else ?
Exceptions confirm the rule.

> I do like the idea behind this - I mean, how many more airlines have chosen the embraer jets over the 737-600 or A318? Lots. One of the principal reasons is that the aircraft is more lightweight and cheaper to operate. If Ilyushin can produce an A321 alternative that's lighter and cheaper to operate, surely it would be attractive to airlines...

> But at the end of the day, its still a Russian aircraft. And sadly, because of that, I don't think the west'll have faith in it.

Hopefully this can break out beyond the CIS. There are so many South American and African airlines that need cheap equipment to get rid of the ancient equipment currently in use. They need to pull a Kia plan in which the specifically go after the lower end the airline market, proof themselves and then move up market. I wish them luck as I have always been a fan of Russian aircraft.
