Will TG Ever Replce Its A300-600's?

Tue Oct 17, 2006 11:30 pm

Wondering if TG will ever replace these workhorse of theirs. Getting real frustrated whenever I am on this planes due to the old interiors and panels within the aircraft are definitely showing its age.

Also, do they have any plans to stop flying their sole 747-300 or was it 2 ??

Any info much appreciated.

Well, they have 5 from 1998, and 8 from 1990-1993. So they are not that old. I guess they just need new interiors. I don't know if they are in any condition to order new planes, but they are still taking delivery of some 777's and a340's IIRC. Maybe if they order the 787/a350, that order will contain an a300 replacement.

The problem is the same at LH.

They are urgently looking for an A300-600-replacement, but there is no airplane in the pipeline so far which could ops on european flights.

There is still nothing available for around 280pax in a comfortable 1 class-layout with a range of around 3000-4000Km which comes at least in range of the A300-600s empty weight.

The B787-3 is too big, too heavy and has a far greater range. It is build for a different market unfortunately.

But maybe TG will put some 777s on A333-routes and put them on A300-city-pairs.

I predict AA will have the same problem. Thats why I think we will see AAA300's for a long time

Actually, the 787-3 was designed specifically to handle Japanese domestic flying, where short flights and frequent takeoffs and landings per day are normal. This makes the 787-3 well-suited for LH as an A300B4-600 replacement.

@ Ray Chuang

The B787-3s Empty Weight is nearly 10tons heavier than that of the A300-600...

I doubt it could be operated as economically on short sectors. It is more designed for 5-7 hrs flights with 300pax and some tons of cargo. But in no way for japanes domestic routes! ANA and JAL will use it, because they have no other choice.

By the way, it will be very interesting to see the direct comparison of the A300-600 and B787-3 in JALs Fleet.Probably somebody could provide some figures for us when the B787-3 is flying at JAL?

It seems that the market for widebodies is very much driven by the LR market now, with the market for A model 777s seeming dried up, only the A333 and 787-3 offer medium range widebodies, and nobody offers a modern SR model.

A contrast with the early days of the DC10, L-1011 and A300B, and even initial 762s and A310s.

Looks like that's what they are going to do, current BKK-BLR route is AB6 and will be taken over by A333 from winter '06.

I wonder which route this AB6 is going to go and where did this 333 come from?

Yes. TG will replace some of its AB6 soon. A couple of months ago, the TG's Board of Directors already approve the retirement of its 8 oldest AB6 (and its 2 B743 also). These aircraft are to be retired between 2007-2008. Order for more 772 or 333 to replace these aircrafts are expected in a couple of months.

Wow - this is good news indeed! And moving from a 300 to a 333 is a huge jump in the capacity as well! Is TG really loving this route so much Big grin?

Do the A333's in TG's stables have PTVs and AVOD?
