I agree with you all - it is childish but really incredible. I have been laughing non-stop for 15 minutes now, !

This also shows the flexibility of English, I don't think that we could make something as good as this in French.

Ah these ones are old old ones that i first heard back in the late 90s.

What may shock you more is that the guys who played these pranks on the announcers at LHR and LGW were actually quite senior figures within Britsh aviation. I know who one of them is and my lips are sealed Big grin

Yes, I first heard these back in 2000 or 2001. Still, it is pretty funny... they are lucky they didn't get in any serious trouble though.

I'm glad they are still in the industry. We could all use a laugh now and then!

I can hardly believe that the announcers fell for it.

Just shows what a multi cultural society we are; we're now so used to seeing unpronounceable names; that we just assume they are genuine.

Its certainly a step up from the old school boy ones like Mr C Lyon

They would have been senior enough to have got out of it  Wink

My native language is not English, so maybe I am not the best reference, but the names seem to me to be very realistic....If you do not know that it is a joke, it is in my view very easy to fall into the trap !!

Right - you don't realize what you are saying most of the time when this happens.

Sort of like saying "I am sofa king we Todd did". OK, the sentence makes no sense but it might take a second or two to realize what you are saying if you didn't know it was a joke.

Glad to hear it!
You can hear them laughing in the background on one of them ("Lefdaroum").. I would have been cracking up too.

They are also quite used to foreign sounding names at Heathrow. I'm sure the victims of this prank had no idea how it really sounded- which is why it was a good one!

Ditto - one of the funniest things I had ever heard when I first heard them years ago  Smile

I once asked an AA gate agent at the Eagle gates in Miami to page my wife, 'Eileen Dover'. Who am I? Why, Ben Dover, of course!

"Eileen Dover, please meet Ben Dover at Gate E16" (or whatever the gate number was...)

Well, it was funny at the time.....

Reminds me of the (recent) joke by some Australian radio guys who checked in as Al Kyder and Terry Wrist.

That was an awesome one!
I wouldn't recommend using names like this in the USA though. The TSA is super-sensitive and might not take too kindly to something like this. As Ricky Ricardo says, "You got some 'splainin' to do!"
