Continental Announces 737 Order/747X Launch Date

Wed Jul 05, 2000 12:16 pm

Recently Continental has confirmed an order for 18 more 737-800s, so this puts Boeing to 313 orders this year I believe.

Also, Boeing has reported sped up the final touches on the new 747X due to the fact that it has got "very good" response out of most of the airlines it contacted earlier in the week.

From: Flight International

PS: We can probably expect a launch of the 747X at Farnborough.

Where did you hear Continental confirmed this order? Flight International only says "Continental, meanwhile, is *understood* to have topped up its 737-800 orderbook with the addition of 18 aircraft at the end of May." Also, it says that these 18 aircraft are part of the undisclosed 737s, so it does not add to the order total.

I believe the 18 737s have been accounted for...

"Continental, meanwhile, is understood to have topped up its 737-800 orderbook with the addition of 18 aircraft at the end of May. The aircraft are among 36 unidentified 737-700/800 orders listed by Boeing. The airline has 78 737-700/800s in service and another 26 -800s and 15 -900s on order from earlier purchases."

747X launch at Farnborough!!! If this is true, then the economics of this aircraft must be as good as advertised or at least thats what everyone thinks. I wonder who the launch customers would be? Possible Qantas seeing that this has been the bird they have been asking for since the early 80s. While I know that they have not been mentioned in past press releases, I would like to see British Airways order some. Possibly as better suited 747-200 replacements than the 777-200ER is?

I would love to hear that Boeing launches the 747X at Farnborough. The Jumbo needs good news, it has been a bit quiet on the order front over the last 2 years. I hope most airlines choose the 747X over the ugly 777-300 longrange version...

Wasn't it always you, CX747, who always posted that BA doesn't need any more B747s as they have 57 B744 and they would be satisfied with them?

Again if you read my post I said as 747-200 replacements. I am hoping that they order the 747X but I don't think they will NOW. I would think though that before the first aircraft is delivered they will order a few.
