Grinstein Does Not See Merger Anytime

Interesting in that many have speculated Grinstein would like a merger based on his past experiences.

I really think Delta is making great strides.

Grinstien was the Western CEO and essentially orchestrated the merger with Delta 2 decades ago. He had an earlier career as a business/corporate attorney in his hometown of Seattle specializing in the transportation sector. He also was CEO of Burlington Northern Railway when they merged with Santa Fe to become BN&SF Railroad.
What is in place now compared to 2 decades ago are Frequent Flier Alliances and codeshare arrangements, that make such mergers as Western/Delta not so needed now. That is how AS has survived as a stand alone carrier over the years, with all sorts of code-share deals with airlines in all three major alliances. The only merger that was needed was US/HP, where the later either had to do it or likely face a Chapter 7 liquidation.

They still must divest themselves of Comair amongst other things, but for the most part DL is ready to exit Chapter 11 early next year.

That may be in the works, not to mention the only option here. Just Lovely  sarcastic ! More of a Leo Mullin waste of money! Another write off thanks to that reign of terror!

Have you read "Airline Without a Pilot?" Certainly worth picking up and goes over the years of DL management failures.

Curious.

Comair thinks they are going to be around. They have just applied to the DOT for authority to fly to Nassau from CVG:

Did I miss something?

Great book and worthwhile reading to anyone who loves or hates Delta Air Lines.

For years, DL's management has been a series of idiots creating failure after failure.

And while today's management finally has figured out how to put the lightbulb in, they still have a way to go.

Here's to 75 more years of the widget.

You probably meant former, right? (former/latter = US/HP in this case)

I agree, great book!! Who would have thought, a leadership book and focusing on the airlines to make it interesting and worthwhile? What I like is how the author is an Atlanta native, but has no ties to Delta, either as a consultant or other tie. That gives him an unbiased view. He talks of the history of the airline, how it came about, all the management through the company, and how it got to its current predicament.

According to the book, Allen began getting DL into the predicament its in now by paying too much for Pan Am's European assets and at the same time starting to drive off management with his ego. Bringing Leo in from outside the company(a first for DL) didn't help change things for the better. Never give a banker the keys to the coffer.

Fortunately, current management knows what needs to be done and has the airline pointed in the right direction and, in case anyone hasn't noticed, focuses more on C.E. Woolman's values to lead a company as compared to Wall Street's. We haven't seen that in a LONG time.

Sometimes you have to swallow hard and realize that a lawyer (Grinstien) is a better choice!

Would that be "service and hospitality from the heart" you're speaking about Mr. otto?

Who knows, we may work for the same team someday.

Service and Hospitality from the Heart, but also:

1. All airlines are the same, its the people that make the difference.

2. We have an obligation to the customer that goes above and beyond the price of a ticket.

3. We must put ourselves on the other side of the counter.

4. Delta, None Faster, None Finer, to and through the South.(Delta Air Lines ad circa 1950's, IIRC)
