Future Of B6 At PIT

Ah, what the heck, perhaps a bit premature, but... here it is...

It has been almost 4 months since B6 began service to JFK and BOS, and I am just curious what B6's long term plans, if any, are for PIT. Will they grow to fly to other destinations from PIT such as IAD or FLA markets? (I would say BUR but they are slots restricted I believe.) Will they just remain JFK/BOS airline, which probably seems to be the most likely at this point? Will they reduce any service?

This should be an interesting thread. If it was discussed before, my apologies!!!

From my point of view I don't think B6 will take a chance at expanding to other areas unless there is demand. I could see PIT-Florida services, but to the West Coast I highly doubt it.

I could think maybe FLL or TPA from PIT. I think that B6 will expand out West and connect the dots a little better. I don't think PIT will be high on the priority list. Here my nearby Airport is OAK, when the T2 extension is done here at OAK...I can see B6 snatching up at least another 2 Gates(out of the 4).

That is my thinking as well. As I said in the original post, I was thinking of California expansion with BUR, but ONE, they're slots restricted, and TWO, I don't think there is demand for that market anyway out of PIT.

FLL and TPA seem likely on top of a possible/likely addition of IAD. If B6 flies out to CA from PIT, I suppose OAK would be the likely airport.

PIT-BUR What in the world? That is a very unlikley route on B6. USAir never even served that market. BUR is not slot restricted by the way. I think you have it mistaken with LGB, which is restricted on larger commercial aircraft slots.

PIT-JFK/BOS have been poor performers so far. I think JetBlue needs to see some more passengers on those flights (not at those ridiculously discounted $49 fares) before they do any more expanding there.

BUR is not slot restricted. However, it has restricted hours and few gates, most of them taken up by WN.

I did a day trip PIT-BOS-PIT on Jet Blue about a month ago and loads were terrible. About 10 people on the flight to BOS and about 30 people on the flight back to PIT. The service was great and loved the Direct TV and XM Satilite radio. Loved flying on the E190. I sure hope the people here in Pittsburgh take advantage of Jet Blues service. I dont read the paper or watch much t.v. Has Jet Blue done any advertising at all here in Pittsburgh?

Well it may have something to do with the fact that FFs prefer to use Alliance carriers to achieve global awards. Especially if they have accumulated status through the years - as on US at PIT. The JFK route probably falls into the same category, even though US doesn't fly there, it does serve EWR and LGA from PIT. It'll probably take quite awhile to wean PIT FFs away from US. AND if US sees a drop in revenue due to JB, they may just start PIT-LGW service - to add a "little" incentive. smile

PIT is so stubborn!

But with Jet Blue now in all major GDS(Worldspan effective tonite) the chances of success are much better!!

My platinum elite plus, plus plus client( as high as you can go on Northwest) has finally realized how worthless these FF programs are..He has a bizillion miles and cant use them ever without using "rule buster" miles, so anyone still buying into these programs is a FOOL!!

Wake-up PIT,,you still aren't going to CUN in Feb or Mar and taking the family with you using your 'whatever the heck they US prgram is called"!!!!!

Hmmmm... intriguing...

You seem to know quite a bit about aviation, especially US, do tell me how US would bring back service on a route they said was not profitable when they're losing FF domestically to other carriers... Or was PIT-LGW profitable??? Aagh, this might get off topic, but eh, oh well...

Frequent flier programs are successful for a reason, it works for the airline and it works for the passengers. I've flown to London, Steamboat Springs, Tampa, Miami, and Honolulu all on frequent flier miles for nothing more than 10 dollar booking fee. Definitely not a pain in the ass, more like a cost effective way to travel. I've found AAdvantage to be especially useful.

I don't think that JetBlue will add flights if New York and Boston don't do well. Hopefully these flights will pick up in the near future, but as for future expansion. I don't think it's likely.

Simple. It could entice FFs to use US instead of JB to accumulate miles and fly free or upgrade n/s to Europe from PIT. The logic for LGW is that FRA is too far for the available 757s and it's far less likely US would use the already stretched wide body assets (333 or 767) on PIT.

Hmmm I think I am seeing the logic. US loses pax/FFers to B6/other LCCs. How does US bring them back???

Answer: We will restart PIT-LGW. Upgrade to Europe service!

This would satisfy all parties in my opinion, regarding the traveler anyway... PIT would have transatlantic service restored, the business travelers would have what they wanted, the FF travelers would have something they'd like. Everybody wins (unless you're jetblue anyway. I wonder if this would set up a fare war between US and B6, or wouldn't it really matter?

I do have to say that FRA would be the preferred city to fly into regarding Europe. I know US doesn't have the aircraft around (767/A330); they have a 757 which lacks the range, but FRA would provide much more connecting flights VIA Lufthansa. What other Star Members use LGW?
