Turbulence Of The Pacific...

Thu Oct 19, 2006 5:37 pm

I have heard some stories of turbulence being pretty bad over the south pacific during the winter months. Is this true? Is turbulence worse flying with a headwind, tailwind, or is it random? I'm flying from SYD-NAN-LAX in late november and was hoping to hit a little more turbulence than normal because I tend to like it; it was too smooth on the way over from LAX-SYD.  Smile

You could always keep trying and perhaps you will have some excitement, like this flight

(any flight which lands only for the NTSB to note "The wings were bent or set permanently 2 to 3 inches upward at the wingtips" had to be one hell of a ride)

I also like the description of how bent up some of the seats toward the back of the aircraft were.

The fact that the aircraft could return to stable flight and land after such rough handling is a tribute to her designers and her certifying authorities.
In China, everything is possible - but nothing is easy.

You are excited about this flight  Smile I've found that it's best not to ask anything, then everything will be a pleasant surprise  Smile
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!
