Free Wi-Fi At Which Airports?

Tue Oct 24, 2006 9:37 pm

Does anyone have or know of a list or directory of airports with free Wi-Fi? While most charge to log on I know there a few that offer free Wi-Fi like GSP and MCI (patchy coverage though)!

Some of the charges at some airports are ridiculous (like ATL) usually for 24 hours.

Be nice if there were a list to reference while traveling.

Thanks

Why don't we post the city where you are and if your airport charges. Here in ILM (Wilmington, NC), it's free.

TPA does and it works fine.

I know OAK and IND do not.

TLL has almost free (10 EEK = ca 1 USD per 24h).

CPH, on the other hand, has extremely expensive one: 80 DKK (ca 15 USD) per 1 h.

MHT has free Wi-Fi.

GSO does not have free wi-fi, unless your company has negotiated a deal with them.

BOS does not...not even in the CO President's Club. Massport trying to force us to give them money (I spend $350/yr for a Crown Room Club...if I can go to a PC and I'm supposed to get it free, then I'm sure as heck not giving Massport an extra penny of mine).

SNA has free Wi-Fi.

MCO has free Wi-Fi.

I second that...but it was about 6 months ago last time I checked. I think I also saw that the NW Lounges have their own networks seperate from the DTW offerings.

I'm not sure if either of them are free.

Believe it or not guys, SJO has free WiFi with a 2MB speed! It is quite powerful too since I have managed to log in at La Candela with my iPaq Pocket PC and browse quickly. The terminal is on the other side of the Runway while La Candela (where most of us spot @ SJO) is off airport next to the RWY and it still comes in, pretty impressive for such a crap airport Alterra has made...

Many major Brazilian airports have free Wi-Fi.

It is being implemented by the authority which runs almost all comercial airports in the country.

I do not know how many have it already, but I know for a fact that CNF, CGH and GIG have, at least on the departure lounges.

The last time I was in DTW, it wasn't.

If you're a WorldClub/Crown Room/President's Club member, it's free in those locations. I have seen some people camping outside of various WorldClubs/President Clubs and using the wireless signal that comes out of these locations.

I believe NW is taking some steps to make sure that the only people that can use the signal are members, as some (MSP maybe?) have placed the SSID number on the front desk and made it a secure connection.

Amazing, out of the top 20 airports in the US, only four airports (LAS, PHX, PHL, MCO) and one airline (B6 @ JFK) offer free Wi-Fi. One would think if nothing else more airlines would offer Wi-Fi in the terminals and concourses.

I guess it's the mentality of "they got you in so if want access, have to pay for it"

BUD is free.
By the way it depends on the type of internet usage you would like to have... For example nearly everywhere, where you can find WiFi Zone, you can connect with your Skype, but have to pay for browsing (or using your e-mail program)... eg LHR, LGW, STN...

I can't remember the concourse but I tried to get free wifi at the United Terminal at ORD and I could only find pay access points.

Anyways PHX has free wi-fi , at least in the America West terminals I have been able to access the internet.

BDL also has free wi-fi in the US-airways United terminal, again I can't remember the exact terminal number or letter but I'm pretty sure it is available in all areas air side.

Even though you are likely never going to go there I can tell you that there is no free wi-fi at DAR (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania), or Zanzibar, Tanzania.
