Not much in my opinion - okay so they've extended the A down the tail, it looks marginally better but it's too similar!

Do the Italians have no creative flair?  Wink

I checked on aviazionecivile.it and not evreryone dislikes it. I really like it, makes the MD look kind of younger. However, without a doubt, I prefer the previous livery...

I think that It'll look much better for sure on the other members of the fleet. Actually, I never liked how the MD looked with the old paint scheme...

Per me va bene, FORZA ALITALIA!

...well, that's great!
here in Italy there's just plenty of newspaper articles describing the catastrophic financial
situation of AZ: the CEO saying "the more we fly, the more we loose", 3 more months
of AZ life expected with current money, ongoing meeting with the Italian government and what's the first outcome?
Substantial reorganization of the company? renewal of the management? The long awaited bankruptcy for a rebirth on a renewed (better) basis?

No, not at all.

Just throwing out some more money with a new paint-job for the 170+ planes.

But, of course, that's Alitalia, a company on the edge of bankruptcy since 1998 whose CEO (Mr. Cimoli) earns 190,375 Euro ($240,000 approx.) a month + benefits, to be compared with AF CEO (30,000 Euro i.e. $38,000), KLM CEO (45,000 Euro i.e. $56,500), or with BA CEO (64,700 i.e. $81,300), in a country (Italy) where a primary school teacher after 20 years of earns 1200 Euro a month.

I'm just glad it's not another ugly all white fuselage with a blue tail and tacky painted engines or something weird. This still looks pretty classic.

but.. BRING BACK THE BLACK NOSE! thanks,

Sad!

I know some unfortunate owners of shares of Alitalia who will just get very annoyed by this new livery.

First, because in such catastrophic economical situation a new livery is the last thing to do (but many politicians in Italy love the art of cosmetics to keep the things on the apparence up and running, don't they?).

Second because it is not even that nice - it just screams "our airline is not able to change for good, we love the tiny changes that allow the people who have been consuming all the finances so far to just keep doing that until AZ will die and there wil be no responsible person to blame"

Get a grip, and take a brave step forward!

The Italians have the best designers. Something that absolutely doesn´t show here. A tired update of a once great, but by now dated livery. The added grey underbelly doesn´t make sense. A chance wasted, and money wasted.
Fitting though to the occasion is that they "launch" this redisign on their most dated aircraft type.

Sorry, but it looks like that the whole livery has slid down the fuselage and the fin. Misplaced.
Alitalia should use others money more wisely.

A side not: I personally think this livery here created by Nycfly75 (or one of his friends) looks 100 times better:

Right. And that's where I get irked. If this had been the new livery, the people screaming about how a "classic livery has been destroyed" would have been the first to praise the designers. Just because it's a subtle change doesn't mean it's bad. If you dislike it, say so, but don't whine about destroying the best livery in the world when you're just disappointed it's a small change and not the radical makeover we would all have liked. Sorry to sound angry, I'm not, I just find it ironic.

I personally love the new colors, I just think the engines should be white, red, or green, but definitely not grey.

Come on guys...the new livery really doesn't look that bad. Besides, the new scheme really emphasizes the windows. I'm sure management thought AZ wasn't getting as many pax because the old livery gave the illusion that the plane was just a windowless freighter...

For the trillionth time people...planes need to be repainted on a scheduled basis. "Design" costs aside, Alitalia isn't spending any money here that they wouldn't have to spend anyways. The rest of AZ's planes will get the new livery when they'd have been scheduled to be repainted with the old one.

Anywho, looks pretty good. Glad they didn't make a huge change.

This is not a new livery, it's an update of the current one, to make it cleaner, just like KLM's update. I can't imagine that Alitalia would have any belief that this is "new," if they did they would have a big celebratory occasion to unveil it, and a big press release.

It's so bad!

But it's not only for the new scheme... it's bad that a company like Alitalia that will be in bankrupt in the next three months (it is not my forecast, it's an expression of italian prime minister) spend time and money in this stupid, insensate and (in my opinion) anachronistic painting scheme.

Please take note that for this type of changing they (Alitalia) for sure spend some money for designers, architectural reports and suggestions, commissions, experts, market interviews ...

I do too. If you think about it, few airlines have the classic look left like Alitalia does with a thick line on the fuselage so the paintscheme will still stand out against all the boring airline colors out there.

I have to say I like the new livery better on the MD-80. I want to see a 777 and see if I feel the same way.

It suprises me that the people known for its modius live style can create something as cheap as this.

then again, with all the things going on with Alitalia, i guess this is the right thing for them, Cheap and it doesn't make sense.

AZ's livery would have looked better and more chic had it been all silver, with this new logo and metallic charcoal coloured billboard titles in all small letters i.e alitalia kind of like NWA's livery.

Well... i don't know what all the people find so awful about this livery... remember that u have to get used to each change and it takes a little of time.. for example the car I know simply love was exactly a car I pretty much disliked for the 2 years after its launch...

I think the new livery is a good update of an already good livery and I'm quite happy about that, it's neater in my opinion. I miss the black nose as well anyway...
I'm positive it will be a great livery on the T7 and the Airbuses.

Nice change AZ, i just hope they are gonna other more important changes... Dreaming about a profitable airline before AZ die...

No way. The colored nose is what makes the Malev livery cool. If it wasn't for that it would not be as nice and distinctive. That scheme is sharp. Nice titles in a distinctive font, color on tail goes nicely ALL THE WAY DOWN to FUSELAGE (not just a tacky painted tail).. and painted nose!

Malev is easily one of the sharpest looking of all the white paintschemes.

With the nose painted, and even without it, I like the new AZ livery slightly better, (at least on the MD-80).
