DL Screwed Up My Reservation, What To Do?

Wed Oct 25, 2006 5:08 am

I had made a reservation on DL using frequent flier miles for the following flights:

Wed 22NOV DELTA 1018 OK N LV NEW ORLEANS 600P 13D
AR MILWAUKEE 1030P COACH

Sun 26NOV DELTA 1743 OK N LV MILWAUKEE 415P 14D
AR ATLANTA 720P COACH

Sun 26NOV DELTA 4611* OK N LV ATLANTA 814P 6A
AR NEW ORLEANS 844P COACH
*Operated by ATLANTIC SOUTHEAST

Well, I checked on Delta.com today, and I found this:

How do I fix this? Do I have to call one of Delta's outsourced Res Agents? I hope not.

What is it that needs fixing? It looks like you're only about an hour behind your original schedule on both legs. If you need to be there sooner, you will have to call and you should be able to move to an earlier flight coming or going without penalty.

If it's the equipment, that's unfortunately not guaranteed. Because there was a time change, you can look for a mainline flight (although the E145s really aren't bad) and they'll probably accomodate you, but I doubt you'll get closer to your original schedule.

It looks like you've been bitten by the schedule change bug, but your reservation is still okay, as far as I can tell. You still have the following flights confirmed:

Wed, 11/22
DL 6094 MSY-ATL departs 1910 arrives 2135
DL 4338 ATL-MKE departs 2230 arrives 2333

Sun, 11/26
DL 609 MKE-ATL departs 1607 arrives 1907
DL 1175 ATL-MSY departs 2043 arrives 2123

You can call the agents if you want, but the segments will get resolved by the computer or a human as the time draws nearer. You just need to look at the segments which are marked as "confirmed" -- but I agree that it is confusing.

your original flight was never non-stop. the original flight was routed MSY-ATL-MKE.

That flight isn't operating so you were put on other flights close to your original time.

Whats the big deal?

Exactly - they've run a schedule change, and you've been reaccomodated to flights that match pretty closely the original journey. That's what airlines do.

DL runs a fairly major schedule change on a weekly basis, as they optimise the use of their fleet - this is more than most major airlines, but not uncommon for US majors.

Sched changes can work to our favor. The ball is now in your court to choose the flights you want (flights that may not have been available at the time of ticketing).

This change will correct itself and then the itinerary manager on delta.com will show itself.

Or, you can call or send an email to customer-care@delta.com and reference your record locator to have it 'cleaned up'.

The 'continuing service' types of flights are the most risky for chop-up as shown by your first leg.

But sound so sexy when announced on the GIDS!  Wink

Again, a case of Delta putting the work back on the customer. They should have called the customer or a mnimum sent him an e-mail. Delta's schedule changes are completely out of hand these days.

It's not just DL - it's something that all of the major carriers do on a routine basis...My family and I are flying to Puerto Rico on CO on December - we booked our tickets back in May, and I would say that our schedule has changed at least 4 times on both the outbound and return flights. It happens.

Okay...well, on second thought, 4 times is is a lot, but hey, it basically gives you carte blanche to change around your flights however you want and the airline basically will do whatever you say in order to reaccomodate you.

I wouldn't go that far.. for two reasons. His flight doesn't leave for just shy of another month. They usually don't contact the passenger until closer to departure time just in case there's another schedule change.

Delta's schedule changes haven't gotten out of hand by any stretch of the imagination. They're no worse than any other major carrier.

Not a huge deal at all...if you need to be in MKE earlier, just call DL up and use the trick to get to a US-based agent (I've posted it in other threads). They'll fix everything up in a second. Normally, I just have them fix it when I have to make a regular phone call to DL (gotta call SMS tomorrow to do a Same Day Confirmed so I can get to STL in time for the game), but if I don't, I normally get an e-mail 2 weeks before departure...the computer catchs up withi it.

My reservations for a trip earlier this year changed several times..sometimes because a flight time changed by a minute or two. A call to DAL clears it all up, or Delta will e-mail. Sweat it not..and enjoy the trip.  Smile

I had this happen to me as well. If you are not happy with the timings, call DL up and they will change it for you, no charge.

It's happened to me three times on the same res with SQ
Just call the airline if you have any doubts. SQ call centre have been great.
DL have always been really great with me, to the point of sending someone to meet my wheelchair passenger girlfriend arriving at LAX from SYD when I missed a connection in ATL from MAN.
I'm sure they'll sort you out!

As others on the board echo, DL did not screw up your reservation. They had a schedule change and confirmed you on the next logical flight. If this does not work, call Delta and I am sure they will work with you.
