UAL 747s back at LHR

Tue Feb 23, 1999 2:57 am

Two years ago United switched to just the 777 to LHR and decided not to operate their 747-200s to London. I have just found out that 747s are again on these routes. What do you all think?

I think it is great that I will be able to see United 747s at LHR again. They are a great sight and very welcome.

I haven't check the latest United schedules but I believe this is true. 747's would be flown out of London Heathrow to San Francisco and Washington Dulles I suppose. Those would be 747-200's. I don't think that they have any 100's left and the 400's are there for the long TransPacific flights (It is possible that they put 777's on some flighs across the Pacific).

I think that this is great! With UAL switching the 777's to the Pacific, it was bound to happen. UAL's only -100's left are used for West Coast-HNL and intra-Asia routes, but even then, we have just a few of them. The -200's are the most likely candidate to fly to LHR, but with UAL putting the new seat-beds (like BA's) on the -400, UA might switch the -400's to compete even heavier with BA.

I think United Airlines will start using Boeing 777-200 over the Pacific since Continental Airlines, Delta AirLines and American Airlines have or will start service to Japan from the U.S, also I think United Airlines will start 777-200 service to Singapore and other cities in Asia from there Tokyo hub.

My source was previewtravel.com I am looking to go to England or Italy this summer and when you put in the destination it comes up with the airlines and the specific aircraft that they use. THe 747s were from IAD-LHR.

My mom is an international flight attendant for United Airlines, and she said that since the economic crisis in Asia is so bad, United is moving some of their 747-400 operations to European routes in hopes to earn more revenue. Any more questions about UA, send them to Capt777IGW@hotmail.com.
