Is It True About Your Connections?

Thu Oct 26, 2006 3:45 am

I know many pilots for Air Canada, and then i was talking to someone. He was telling me that, knowing pilots would help me find a job easier. I dont think that would really do anything, but I am just wondering if anyone knows.

Yes. In the industry alot of times who you know can be just as important as what you know. Not always, but alot of the time. It's true for most jobs.

Knowing people in the industry always helps. Here at B6, there is even an internal recommendation capability through out intranet so when someone applies for a position a current crewmember (or multiple crewmembers) can put in their recommendations.

I am not a pilot with B6, I fly on my own time. I am on the supply chain side of things.

In any industry who you know is often as important (if not more important) than what you know. Also, burning bridges and p*ssing people off is never a good idea if it can be avoided.

If you have opportunities to network I would strongly encourage it. My current job practically walked up to me said "Have you ever thought about living in Cleveland" and "How's $(a much larger number than I thought I was worth at the time) plus benefits sound?" due to my involvement in various groups within my industry (A/V and automation).
