Good for them! They are working hard at what they are doing and their costs are going to go up due to the new subsidiary but they should be able to manage. I wonder if they have found a new carrier for the jetexpress operations yet? I am hoping for the E170 to better match their mainline products. I wish them the best.

Half a million? I dont know if I should be happy or worried. Seems like they teeter on the brink between profit and loss right now.
I guess if they can end the year cutting some more costs and/or upping revenue they should be alright for now.

Wow. In the black. But very close. To put it in context a full Concorde on the LHR-JFK route could generate revenues of more that $1.5 million or three times their 2007 second quarter profit and around a quarter of their 2006 second quarter profit.

F9 should fly the Concorde then!

Seriously, a loss was expected, so I guess even 1 buck is good news.

They posted a profit in a difficult quarter. A couple of other LCC's - Airtran, JetBlue - did not.

That doesn't seem bad to me.

Beyond agree. Even Alaska posted a loss. A profit is a profit, no matter how big or small.

There is no doubt F9 faces challenges, but who is not? F9 is investing into its future by creating a subsidiary. They are still growing, and looking into markets that can bring in money. It is going to be peak travel season for Mehico.

I hope Frontier pulls through and becomes much larger. They seem like a great, customer friendly airline!

In this environment? Even a small profit is huge. It means that they're headed in the right direction. It means that as oil prices fall, they will do better. It means they're viable.

Estimates were earnings of 1 to 5 cents per share. They came in at the very low end of that range. Still a good quarter when compared to most other LCCs, and I think a sign that they are on the right track for increased profits and growth.

Interesting find copied and pasted from the article linked in the starter thread:

Frontier Airlines Reports Fiscal Second Quarter 2007 Results

Announcing 2Q 2007 results on Oct 26, 2006? Frontier must have some very high-powered clairvoyant people working for them!

The key is in the line:
Frontier Airlines Reports Fiscal Second Quarter 2007 Results

They are now in Fiscal year 2007. It doesn't have to follow the calendar.

Some companies like Microsoft just finished the first quarter of fiscal 2007, others like F9 the 2nd quarter.

Glad F9 still is in the black. I really like F9 and can't wait to try them.

As long as it is a positive cash flow when they expected a negative income, it is great news.

True... but keep in mind too that DEN isnt a cheap airport to operate out of. Kudos to F9.

Which is another reason why I am pleased to see them expanding away from DEN.

Send a Q400 to GFKBig grin  duck

Seriously though this is excellent news for Frontier, especially with the expenses incurred in forming the holding company.

Sure, they will be fine. Just like B6. Sadly, both F9 and B6 have skepticists, writing the demise of both airlines. If they only knew............

F9 is a great airline. You would enjoy their service.

Just by the comments and structure would make one "like" an airline. When you work in this industry, you get to know other airlines. I have never flown on Air Tran, but I am very fond of them. I like their planes, people, and route structure.

rotfl  My, the earnings balance out to zero. Coincidence, I think not!  Wink

Now the question, has anyone looked at why the majors did so well? I'm speculating international, but I'll admit I haven't followed AA or CO in enough detail to know if cost cutting and the "network effect" was their profit center vs. 2005 or if the growth in international was the pure reason they had a profit?

Please elaborate. I'm curious as to why someone with a F9 username would also include B6... I'm curious as to your thoughts.

I obviously have a love for F9. Great airline, great people, and a great future. I also have a vested interest, and I am "A whole different animal"!

I also have a love for B6. Everyone that I have ever met from B6 have been a pleasure to communicate with. I have the highest respect for them.

It seems as though a few have already written off F9 and B6 because of a few bad quarters. Sure the rumors have flared about a merger, but I have my doubts on that. The 2 airlines would be a good merge, but the cultures are different. While both airlines are young, it would not be a difficult merge (union fights and all). I think both airlines will come out on top, with or without a merge.

The reason I posted on B6 and F9 in the same post too, is because the other thread going about B6's 500K loss, is drawing many to say that B6 is going under.

It just frustrates me on how many get a jolly out of watching an airline fail or struggle. I was appalled and still am about how many on a.net laughed, taunted, and danced around the demise of Independence Air. So many employees and customers suffered because of it, and I find absolutely no humor in that. While F9 or B6 are nowhere near extection, I find some people using Indy as a platform of where these 2 airlines are headed. That is why I will sit back, and enjoy watching both B6 and F9 kick some ass.

Thanks for letting me blow some steam!!!  Smile I went off in a tangent, but felt good to spill it! LOL!
