Does This Practice Still Apply On DL Flights?

Fri Oct 27, 2006 10:09 am

Hi!

I was wondering if Delta still uses the practice that they do not assign you seats for segments, which take place 6 hours or more after your first departure. This question only applies to flights, which do not immediately follow an international flight.
I am asking this because I am looking at booking a flight from MSN to CDG via TLH, TPA and JFK. And I only have 45 minutes in TPA so I am not sure if I'd be able to get a window seat on the JFK-CDG leg, which would be great since it would be my first 77W flight.
Thanks a lot!

Well...the 77W flight from JFK to CDG is an AF flight...last I checked DL does not fly 777 into JFK!

are we talking Madison, WI? How did you come up w/ a routing from MSN to CDG via 2 FLA cities?

And DL will be flying the 777 to JFK in just a couple more days in the first nonstops from the US to BOM - and, I believe, the longest scheduled flight by time on a US airline for the return at 16 hrs. 20 min.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

On Delta you can get seat assignments for all of your flights at the time of booking. This is for both domestic and international.

If you have a Delta Skymiles account and your have your Skymiles number attached to your reservation, your reservation will show up on Delta's website when you sign in, and you will be able to change your seat assignments as well if desired.

You don't even need that much - anyone can change their seat. All you need is a confirmation number and your name.

Well, last time I did this, Delta did not assign me my seats for my last leg, because they said that their system could not process it, but they were able to check my bags to my final destination.
According to Delta's website DL 16 is still a domestic 777 flight, even in March.
Of course I am aware that DL does not operate the 77W, it is operated as a codeshare with a DL flight numbre though...

And my routing for my trip, if anybody cares is:
DUS-CDG-DTW-ATL-MSN-CVG-TLH-TPA-JFK-CDG-DUS
Costs just 18 Euros more than DUS-ATL-MSN-ATL-DUS.  Smile

I would say that either something was misunderstood by someone, or you were talking to an incompetent agent at Delta. If you have a reservation, you can have a seat assignment.

Cheers

Not always depending upon the fullness of the flight and such. I'm Gold Medallion and always get a seat assignment but I have traveled with co-workers a few times who had no status and it was a gate assignment only. They asked the gate agent for an assignment and were told they would have to wait. I went to the same agent, explained the situation and how they were flying with me and they immediately got a seat.

I think we are having a language barrier issue. I think the OP means the agent issuing all of his connecting boarding passes at his original check-in.

I smell mileage run!
I need to go on one of those before the end of the year myself.
Don't need anything as drastic as above - but, any suggestions?

USFlyer is correct. The problem was that they did not issue all boarding passes right away and said that they could not assign me a seat. I was confirmed for all segments though.

nearly all airlines hold a few seats for gate check-in if the issue is capacity of the flight. I'm still not sure we have a problem here or just a routine airline procedure.

Where in the US did you stop on this routing?

That routing was MSN-CVG-PHL-CDG-DUS and they didn't want to issue me the two boarding passes for the AF flights. So I just got them in PHL.

I changed my mind and am now flying MSN-CVG-GSP-ATL-JFK-CDG-DUS.
That way I will get two 777s in a row. One 772 and one 77W.  Smile
