Rabbits Only On DL?

Mon Oct 30, 2006 6:32 am

Hi!
I was talking to a friend of mine who said that only DL allowed her to bring her rabbit on board the aircraft. I think she called a whole bunch of airlines and they all said that they only allow cats and dogs.

Are there any special regulations with rabbits that prohit them from coming on board?

thanks.

I think that animals other than cats and dogs are looked at in a different light.

Rabbits could get pretty smelly, but that's only if you don't clean their cage regularly.

Continental also accepts rabbits as cabin pets.

Some DL connection carriers will only accept dogs, cats, or birds.

As a rabbit owner, I believe only DL and CO allow rabbits on board. I have only taken my rabbit for a few transcons on DL, but have never done so on CO.

As for regulations, I think it's down to airlines... Rabbits behave very well on board and they can't make noises (eg. barking). My rabbit just sits in his carrier bag and maybe do some turns inside it. All my seatmates have been fine with him. I think airlines only allow dogs and cats on board because they are the most common pets around, and there is still not as much understanding on rabbits than dogs and cats. So airlines just say "why bother?"

Either that, or becuase they've been classified as livestock.  vomit

And I guess if airlines begin to expand beyond cats and dogs, they will have to allow everything. How would like to be seated next "Frank" the 2 foot Boa?

Ever sat next to a dog that fouled his little crate?!

Some companies allow only cats&dogs as PETC or AVIH but will handle all other animals tru their Cargo department.

I believe airlines love to transport horses. Horses (especially studs and racers) need to have someone watch over them all the way, and airline get to sell one more ticket on top of everything.
