UAL Business Class To Asia

Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:18 am

Does anybody know if United has any plans to update their 744 business class product in the near future? I see they currently have a 50 inch pitch business class seat in a 2-3-2 config for the 747-400s.

Installation begins sometime at the end of the year and continues into next years. I don't know when the public can see it. It won't look so different than other lie-flat products.

Lovely! (said sarcastically). This is like a vaporware announcement from dot.com companies in the late 90s where there would be a non-information announcement just to let the public know that something is coming...but the "what" isn't specified. A clue is when the company and its supplier's stock symbols are shown in the announcement.

I go to Asia four and five times a year in fully paid J and F, and this isn't enough to sway me to give them any carrier a year of loyalty in the event that I might get to ride on the "new whatever" a year from now. I have ridden enough flights where I seemed to get one of the last aircrafts yet to be converted.

Sorry about the down tone here, but I just don't get excited about PR pieces like this.

I suspect that some premier Frequent Fliers somewhere have "road tested" the new J seat at some hidden mock up some where.
Its coming, why we have not seen it yet, I dont know, but its coming!

I think that the DL new Biz class announcement trumps this one, announcing a product that will be in a few 777 LRs and only added to other a/c starting some 3 years out

In fairness their C class is predominately 55" with only the front C cabin on the 744 main deck being 50". Also, the two center rows in the rear cabin have fantastic room, probably 65" or greater.

I think it's frustrating that we can't all have a peak at the new product however, 2007 is turning out to be "War of the Business Classes" with BA, AA, DL and a few others updating their products. United is being VERY Tight lipped however what I know from folks I've spoke to at our World Headquarters is that it will blow all US competition out of the water and give the Asian Carriers a run for their money! Since so many carriers are updating their products, we simply must be tightlipped! Additionally there was mention that UA didn't want to make a big deal of it until the project is well underway so as to not disappoint.

I saw it when UA was adding E+ back in 2000-2001. Some planes had it, others didn't. Man, were there some broken hearts on those long haul flights when people expected one thing but the product hadn't been updated yet on that specific aircraft!

Can't wait to see what they're working on! The first 3 class 763 should be out flying in it's new config next August (07)! Then 97 other 3 class aircraft to follow the conversion! (one at a time!) The next few years is going to be long waiting for the whole fleet to transition!

What I do know is all 3 class aircraft in First and Business will be consistant- not like today where the 777 and 747 are the same but the 763 is different. We also will have new video drivers for our international fleet but won't be rewiring the 744 in Economy for PTV's as it would take too long and is cost prohibitive.

Very exciting times at UA!
The debate continues... Starwood or Hyatt... which is better

Great to hear! With a bit of luck, my 744 in January 2008 will be updated. It would be really nice to have a bed instead of a recliner for that 14 hour flight . . .
