TAM Lands In LHR

Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:17 pm

The first TAM flight 8084 GRU-LHR A330 landed savely in LHR Terminal Four yesterday 13:35hrs. TAM passengers will use KLM lounge in LHR T4.

The flight was fully booked and marks TAM's international expansion: double daily GRU-JFK, GIG-MIA, and GRU-MXP will follow.

I was working yesterday at Heathrow and saw the TAM 332 and the Air new Zealand 777! Interesting day at LHR for new airlines/types! Both looked great!

Does that mean Varig no longer have the right to fly into LHR?

The TAM aircraft was parked on stand 402, and will be handled by KLM. Nice to see a new aircraft in the terminal.

I also saw the Air New Zealand 777, looked real nice in the early evening light!

Will be interesting to see how KLM deal with the new addition. KLM's resources at LHR could be stretched. They now handle their own KLM flights, Kenyan (twice daily I'm not to sure, maybe someone can clarify), Air Malta, Sri Lankan (again sometimes twice a day) and now TAM. Be interesting to see how they cope. They only have a few desks for checking passengers in on Zone C in terminal 4, and use desks 1-6 down on Zone A for the Sri Lankan flights.

Looks like they are getting ready for when BA move out into Terminal 5 and can expand more of their ground operations.

No, the bilateral agreement was extended to 14 weekly frequencies for each country. BA will add more 3 weekly frequencies. RG has plans to return soon - let's wait and see.

I thought AA would have handled TAM at T3 since they have a code share to the USA.

Not sure if it was reported here, but Transaero's daily Moscow flight has also recently moved to LHR, making 4 airlines on the route (Aeroflot, BA, Bmi and Transaero)

The 3 BA weekly frequencies will be seasonal only. The other 7 are hold by Virgin Atlantic and as RG does not operates the route nowadays ANAC grant the right for such extra flights, but RG has plans to fly to London in 5 months.

Good news! Seems that will use the M11 leased by Tam ! I get info that staff are under trainning as well as some A320 capitains. JJ is hiring some RG M11 co-pilots for this venture, and several new connections has been added to GIG or will be added during the next 60 days.

Brazil is really in need for more flights to Europe.

Richard, i'm still in Sao Paulo, let me know if you have any availiability of time this week.

And to many other places. Recently it has become very hard to travel on short notice.

Congratulations to TAM, service to London Heathrow is a major accomplishment.

TAM seems to be decided to be the Brazilian flag carrier from now on. And I really hope they can achieve this.
The absence of Varig has created a mess and a low availability for all flights, domestic and international.
But I think that the slow growing of TAM is healthy for the airline, so that it can fly each time to more destinations.
How about MAD? - Are there any development regarding this route?

Rgs!

ps: Talking about TAM, for those interested, I wrote a trip report about a domestic flight I got with them on Saturday. Click HERE to read it! - Comments are very welcome!

I don't think so in the short term. They are working on MXP, a 3rd MIA and a 3rd CDG, as well as the 2nd JFK that will begin next month.

And shortly, a second SCL. They will change JJ3557 GIG-GRU leg, and create a new flight:

JJ8028 GIG 2150 GRU 2250 2335 SCL 0235 - A32A (12C 144Y)
JJ8027 SCL 0330 GRU 0815
(To GIG connects with JJ8085 and creates a JJ8085 leg using the JJ8027 aircraft "A32A" GRU 0900 GIG 1000)

Also, Tam Mercosur will change F100 on GIG-EZE-GIG (night flight) to an A320.

This makes me wonder how TAM is doing themselves at the check-in in GRU nowadays? Back in July it was quite a mess in the evening but now they have the flights to MIA, CDG, JFK and LHR flights all leaving within 10 minutes. In total I just counted 15 flights tonight between 21:55 and 22:45. Did they had a chance to extend their space? Also, is there any increased offer of their shuttle bus service which was almost always overcrowded back then?

Quoting JJMNGR (Reply 11):

Very good news, thanks Richard! Too bad it will not be in place for the Christmas traffic, but luckily in time for carnival... I guess we can expect to listen more on that on Wednesday during the presentation of the 3rd quarter results?

I don't think it's reasonable anymore to talk about TAM being slow in its international expansion...  Wink

No... they use the same space... only Gol get some extra space.

Could be, i don't have an exact date yet. I will fly to LHR by december and probably will visit AMS during next summer!

Agree 100%, they added a new CNF-GIG-EZE, now 2nd SCL service, 2nd JFK service, 3rd CDG and very soon 4th MIA daily.

Just a side note, first flight to LHR performed by PR-MVL, the last one received by Tam from Airbus.
