In 1988, Who (if Anyone) Flew IAD-MOB?

Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:00 pm

I was reading Tom Clancy's "Clear and Present Danger" and the book has people twice flying between Dulles and Mobile. My oldest OAG is from 1995 and then there were no Washington-Mobile flights. So I ask, who if anyone, would have flown it in 1988?

On behalf of UA, you mean?

But if you're asking who flew it nonstop, nobody did.

UltrAir also flew to BHM and MOB from either IAD or JFK. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I remember thinking what a fly-by-night this seemed to be - considering this was basically their entire route structure. With 727-200s.

Presidental Airways did fly on behalf of Continental.
I remember calling CO in early 1987 and was offered
a connection through Washington (not sure what city)
to fly to Daytona Beach from EWR. The WAS-DAB leg
was on Presidental Airways...at the time I thought it
was strange that CO would book me on another airline.
