Cheapest Flight Possible Over Christmas

Tue Oct 31, 2006 12:51 am

I just wanted some help here...

I need to find the CHEAPEST possible flight over christmas holiday. Departing in middle of December and returnign in early January.

This is part of a bet i made my friend that i can find the cheapest flight possible. The flight could last just 30 minutes from like SNA-LAX but its gotta be the cheapest flight possible on any airline between any destinations within the USA.

Was hoping someone could help me here.

thanks again to all you A.Net guys who can find and know everythign bout aviation

how about Chicago MDI to Kansas City MCI on Southwest, for $117 all in, return? Out as late as Dec 19, and back as early as Jan 2. Similar deals on Jet Blue out of New York and in California...

Although not in the USA, I flew JFK-CDG-LON-CDG-JFK last christmas for $187 (£99) return which I thought was pretty cheap

On Air France I should add  Smile

That would be United Express (Skywest). Along with LAX-ONT, both are the shortest flights within the UA network, with a block time of approx 35 mins and covering a distance of around 30 miles.

In my experience (of the ONT flights anyway), the flights are pretty expensive to purchase, and are more often that not filled with people connecting at LAX (such as me!  Smile ).

fly to LAX and connect to Asia

yeh LAX=SNA is probably the shortest flight possible i used airnav its liek 33nm and lasts 30mins on flight time.

Wow... I didn't know that! Flying LGW-STN seems long-haul in that light! I can understand LAX-ONT maybe, but SNA-LAX?? Well, OK, if you're connecting I guess it's okay, but isn't it not worth the hassle if you are only O & D'ing? Okay, I guess sometimes the 405 doesn't offer strong competition, but still..  Smile

To me a flight would have to be at least 200-300 miles. It would also depend on how close to Christmas Day you want to travel. Christmas day this year falls on a Monday. You could probably get a good deal for outbound flights up and until the following Thrursday or even with luck on the Saturday before. Your more likely to get a real good deal on red-eye or very early (6-7 am) or even some mid-day flights. Return flights after the 25th may not be as much of a problem as many don't do as much business travel until the first business days after New Years day.
As you live in Houston, you could probably get a cheap flight with enough advance purchase time, like buy now, on Southwest or CO (does AirTran serve Houston?) to someplace like Austin, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, someplace up to 500 miles or with some luck even father. Your best bet is on routes with a lot of frequency on airlines that heavlily serve your area.

Maybe not now, but closer to, or in December, when the last-minute specials come in, it shouldn't be a problem.
