NW To FCO In 2007?

Just wondering given the popularity of US-Italy routes this past summer, would NW reopen DTW-FCO next summer??

I remember NW flying to FCO until 2005

That is a good question - I know most of the CO flights to FCO and MXP were jammed packed most of the summer, so I would imagine there is money to be made if they started the seasonal route again.

Can the 757s with winglets make it to FCO from DTW? If they could they could keep it open year round. Then if it does well, maybe that would be a route for the 787s when they come on board.

No way. It just doesn't have the legs. Further, I understand that FCO is a leisure-oriented (read: low yield) market from the United States, meaning that the more Y seats, the better. Hence, the A330-300 (which did indeed fly the route before it was cut) would be the most suitable aircraft in NWA's current fleet. I don't see them adding the route back for Summer 2007, however they have recently announced new European service, so there may be hope yet.

NASCAR: Yes, once the inflight refueling by airliners is approved and the 757 is equipped as needed. J/K kidding buddy. The 757 wouldn't get close to Italy.

I personlly flew DTW-FCO in WBC a few years ago and just loved it. I'd like to see them bring it back, but I'd be surprised if it comes back soon.

How many A332/A333 do they have now? 757s surely aren't able to fly to Italy from Detroit.

Yes, it's not a surprise. All the other american carriers serve Italy with success.

No that isn't correct. It is 12 -300's and 10 -200's N801NW-N812NW for the 300's and N851NW-N860NW are currently in the fleet. N860NW (series 200) was deliverred in late September and N812NW (series 300) was delivered last week.

Look at this updated NW European Network Map (with new services to BRU and DUS announced 2 weeks ago). There is FCO too!

Didn't Alitalia fly DTW-FCO? If not, then I think Alitalia may open this route instead of NW and they can codeshare.

Yeah briefly in the late 1980s as a weekend charter, and also as cargo bringing in Cadillac Alantes.

They had a codeshare around 2000 when they were briefly a part of the "Wings Alliance", but it was always NW out of DTW.

Probably if they wanted to open up a DTW-FCO route year round, it would need to be done with Alitalia since it would only fill a 767-300 until Northwest gets the 787s. I know the DC-10s were filled in the summer, but I doubt they would do well in the winter.

We will most likely restart the DTW-FCO next summer. It was cancelled for this summer because of a shortage of A330's with the 4th AMS. But the A330 pilots i've flown with(including the ones on the BOM-AMS leg earlier today) do believe that FCO will be back next summer if the current A330 delivery schedule stays on track. We'll see.

They have just retired the DC10 from transatlantic service out of MSP I believe... There is a thread about that on here...
