Flew out to Miami, via Pittsburgh on US Airways from
LaGuardia Airport on June 30th. Outbound flight from
LGA was a 757, headed for San Diego, via PIT. Flight
was uneventful. Beverage service only. 25 minutes
late on departure, but arrived on time. Aircraft was
in new livery, interior was new too. Airplane was
very clean, service was efficient.

Connected to an MD80 for the PIT-Miami flight.
Left gate 10 minutes late, arrived on time. Sat
on tarmac awaiting gate in H concourse on the
arrival. Airplane was filthy, clearly quite old (I
saw the manufacturing date above the door,
it was October 1982 and delivered to PSA).
Lavatory was broken. Overhead bins were
small and were blue inside. First Class cabin
looked nice. In flight service included a lunch
box. Flight attendants were pleasant, but
the overall feeling was unprofessional. Too
many cutesy jokes about "Welcome to
Miami" and that plane really unclean.

On July 5th, flew on a Boeing 737-300 from
MIA to PIT. Old livery. Plane very, very
dirty. Caked egg from breakfast on the
seat, potato chip crumbs on floor, broken
lights and AC, cracked plastic panelling.
Pleasant flight crew. Very efficient. Left
gate on time, arrived PIT 22 minutes early.
Lined up behind three AA 727-200's, one
AA 757, another AA 737-800, and a Varig
B767-200ER on takeoff at MIA.

PIT-LGA, MD80. Flight left gate 40 minutes
late. MEchanic was electrocuted replacing
a bulb. All pax. had to disembark. Lost the
takeoff slot, parked on runway for 35
minutes more waiting takeoff. Arrived one
hour late at LGA, waited on taxiway for a
gate for another 40 minutes. Cleaner MD
80 than the first flight, but cramped, old
livery, obnoxious flight attendant, and
annoying excuse-reports from the cockpit
to explain all the delays.

Pittsburgh Airport, very nice. Clean. US
Airways terminal at LGA, OK, but a little
crowded. Miami facilities very nice. I was
not impressed with US Airways but this
is not an airline renowned for service
and punctuality and yet with the
exception for a 1h 40 minute delay on
arrival, all other flights got us there
and back with no problems. Annoying
video displays on the 757 and 737's
touting the new A330's and expanded
European flights, and A319/A320 fleet
renewal. Not very interesting if you
are flying cramped 737's and MD80s

Next time, will fly American or Continental
to Miami. These flights were cheap
though. $180 RT

US Air has a tendency to have dirty airplanes. I still am thinking if I should call them US Airways as it seems
only half the planes that they have in PHL have that livery, and the galley in the one I saw(767) had ALL the equipment still say US Air. The person next to me asked me if they were 2 different airlines! I rarely fly them, as I think of them as the first paragraph in the article about their Int'l service in Airways about 2 years ago. Usually I go out of my way to make connections that are $100-$200 more than US non-stop. I hope that UA takes them over, even though it might mean a decrease in service, with a UA hub 100 miles south, and a mini UA hub 100 miles north. Now that I'm done ranting, I leave you in peace.

Geezzzz man!!!!! That Sux. I would never fly US AIRWAYS again!!! Did you take any pictures of the interior (Although it wasnt worth it)

Seems like just about all MD-80's are crappy!!! I have flown on 5 wit Continental, and have found Continental to have the cleanest MD-80's (As clean as a 757) Delta's MD-80's can be nice, But I've been on some crappy ones. I agree wit you about US AIRWAYS MD-80's!!!! They are crappy!!!!!

I am sorry to hear you had dirty aircraft on your trip. I flew RDU-CLT-EWR and all aircraft were very clean (even the CLT-EWR MD-80). I guess that's the luck of the draw. Try USAirways again, and try to get on one of their new Airbuses, they are very nice. Best of luck in your future travels!

I wasn't going to respond to this, but I can;t stand it anymore so I have to say something. I agree with USAirwys4lyfe up there, its the luck of the draw. It all depends on the time of day you are flying etc. on every airline. Its not just US Airways. In order to compete and make money all airlines have been pushing the limits for fast turn arounds in order to get the plane back in the air.

Yes the DC-9's and 737-200's have seen better days because they are old but I never thought of them as dirty. The MD-80's are indeed in the old color scheme on the outside, but that doesn't make them an old aircraft or neglected. I have been on their MD-80's several times and never though they were in worse shape compaired to the compeition. With all the new aircraft flying these days it seems as if people are discusted if their plane is over 10 years old.

It seems to me that those flights were pretty good to me considering the congestion problems at those airports and you getting in ontime or even early on all the flights except the last one. To me it seems you were annoyed that you had to wait because a mechanic got electricuted replacing a bulb. In my opinion, I would be more than happy to be delayed and make sure he got medical attention.

A few other things that I found alarming was the fact you said "Flight attendants were pleasant, but the overall feeling was unprofessional." Well, you were not involved in an emergency so you don't know how professional they really were. Thats the whole reason for flight attendents in the first place. Also, "US Airways terminal at LGA, OK, but a little crowded." It wouldn't be a good airline if it wasn't crowded.

It just seems kind of silly not to fly on an airline again even though they, "got us there and back with no problems." I respect your decisions though, thats the whole reason why there is many choices of airlines to fly where you want to go. Sorry if I cam accross kind of rude, I appriciate the time and effort you put into this report for us to read.

I wonder what I have to look foward too on my BWI-CLT-CUN/CUN-CLT-BWI next week?? I have not flown on USAirways in 2 years, but I always remmember the planes being clean and the crew friendly. I think I'm on all 737's(300/400's). The report will come around 7/16.
