New VARIG - Any News On Operator Licence?

Wed Nov 01, 2006 11:21 pm

I was wondering if anyone out there can give an update on the NEW VARIG.
Their fleet as it stands now and if the operator licence is anywhere near issue.

Aren't they waiting for this to buy or lease some B737's and Embraer's

Any update appreciated

I am also curious about the load factor.

The last I heard, Varig was number 1 in load factor on the Rio-SP shuttle in September (66%).

As for the Operator License, if you actually live in Brazil you know how things work in our politics and when you need the government for anything. You give something to get something. This is the case with Varig and ANAC. It is now clear that there is heavy lobbying (and successful) from TAM and Gol in ANAC, and thus the agency demands Varig gives up some of the slots they currently have the rights to, in order to give them the operator license.

And people still wonder why Brazil is the undeveloped country that it is. Such a waste of potential...
