CRTs On 737NGs

Fri Nov 03, 2006 11:36 am

Does anyone know who else besides AA have CRT screens on their 737NGs? Most airlines who use 737NGs have drop-down LCDs:

Why would AA choose to use CRTs instead of LCDs, besides price? Hardly any new aircraft are equipped with CRTs anymore, and in the case of widebodies, projectors are now rarely used on new aircraft. Even some mid-1990s aircraft have LCDs, such as Delta's MD-90s.

Note that this is NOT a PTV thread. Please don't ask.

Maybe the AA 738s came before the DL 738s?

Only an idea...

I would think that the weight savings of going LCD vs. CRT (even though you need more of them), lower electrical current requirements/heat gerenation and less frequent service intervals (for the LCD panels at least; perhaps the "flip down" mechanism is a service issue) would have steered a decision.

Good question.

Delta has MD-90s first made in 1995, and they all have drop-down LCDs. At the time AA got their 737-800s, LCDs were widely available.
