TK On Expansion -make JV With DO&CO On Catering

Fri Nov 03, 2006 10:39 pm

Turkish airlines is targeting 20 M passengers in 2007 (up from 17,5 M this year ),a fleet of 120 aircraft and tangible improvements in catering and on-board service.
In order to boost it's catering capabilities, TK have entered a joint venture 50/50 with Austria's catering company Do&CO,traditionally supplier for AUA and Lauda-air for quality airline food.
This joint venture will give a qualitative boost to its on-board service and should helpt to attract a substantial number of additional passengers to transit in IST.
A very clever move by TK,bearing in mind that DO&Co is a very well known caterer in the german-speaking countries.

A couple points about this.

THY is merely returning to the catering business. Prior to its sale to Gate Gourmet THY maintained its stake in the flight kitchens of Havas-USAS which has been supplying THY for the longest time.

In addition its interesting to note, the DO & CO bid was also in partnership with the Turkish Austrian firm TAV which operates terminals such as IST new International terminal. The winning joint venture will provide catering services to THY at 9 domestic stations including Istanbul Ataturk & Sabiha Gokcen, Ankara, Adana, Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman, Izmir, Bodrum, Trabzon. In addition while DO & CO is an Austrian company its founder and CEO is a native Turk.

Other bidders for the competition were current providor USAS-Gate Gourmet along with LSG SkyChef and local Turkish caterer Safro Group.
