Hmmmmm...... sounds strange but seems to be true since Lufthansa said this in an official press release.

Well, let me check the match schedule of the Bundesliga... Bochum is playing in Berlin and Dortmund is playing in Bremen ... Berlin and Bremen are too far away so it seems that a friend and me will be in DUS to watch the A380. Anyone else there?

Sounds good, long time ago that I had a Frappuccino! I'll talk with a friend tomorrow, usually he is playing with his band every Sunday but I think it is cancelled next weekend so it can be that we'll be there as well.

I'll know more on Wednesday.

Damn dude, you picked the wrong date to fly to the US of A, first you miss the A380 at DUS and then the Bochum vs. Frankfurt game.  Wink Anyway, have fun in Texas!

By the way, it can be that I am at Bochum Uni later today, I am waiting for a call from a friend. I'll definitely call you when I am nearby!

Ok, I just got a call and can confirm that we'll be there on Sunday, let's talk about the meeting point later this week. I don't think that we can make it as early as 11 AM but I think that we'll be there at noon or at the latest at 12:30 PM. The problem ist that we're invited to a party on Saturday night and that we have to drive from Soest to DUS on Sunday, but the ride should be no problem, I don't think that there are any traffic jams on a Sunday.

Cool, I can't wait to see the mega-fat A380 at my home airport!  cheerful

I am sure that I will also buy at least two large "somethings with a lot of caffeine" at Starbucks to wake up.  Silly

Damn, I just looked for the matchday schedule of the Regionalliga, too bad that the Duesseldorf-Pauli game is on Saturday, I had definitely watched it in the LTU Arena when it had been on Sunday since I am in DUS anyway.

Aircraft is rumored to be F-WXXL. Unfortunately my cheapest travel to DUS will be around 300 Euro, too much for just the A-380.

Have fun.

Why go to CLL LOL

Yeah, I live right on the German Dutch border kinda north of between Aachen and Maastricht.

I've been to DUS to pick folks up but don't know the airport too well (other than the damn speed cameras on the way...) where does one go to see the plane? Thanks for any info. I should be in Cologne for the 11th at 11 on Saturday and it will make a good weekend package. Booze, Woman, and Planes!!!

The observation decks in DUS are perfect, there is one on the roof of Terminal B and another on the long-distance train station.

We can meet at Starbucks and go together to the observation deck if you don't know how to get there.

You just have to buy a ticket either at the observation deck at the train station or at the main observation deck. I think it is 2.50Euros and you can use it for both observation decks the whole day long. It also allows you to use the sky train (if its working). However, nobody checks for tickets in the sky train anyway from my experience.

My timing sucks with the 380... I arrive at FRA on the 11th but will only be in DUS on the 14th, then it comes to JNB on the 27th or 28th and I am in CPT from 26-30!
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

actually it just dawned on me. I will be in Cologne on Samstag the 11th for the big 11:11 carnival party. I will basically be toasty all through the day and evening. That will make Sunday tough but maybe. What is the timing you folks are looking for? 12:30 at the Starbucks or what?

Cool guys, I am looking forward to meet you!

I will be there for sure but until now I don't know what time it will be. Two friends will join me and they want to film the landing of the A380 at 11 AM (they are working on some film project for university). The problem is that one of them can't say yet if he can make it that early (depends on Deutsche Bahn timetable) to my friend's apartment in Soest where we want to meet and start from.

I will let you guys know as soon as I know more (tomorrow, on Friday, or at Saturday at the latest), then we can agree on a meeting point. Additionally we can exchange our mobile phone numbers by eMail, then we can call each other in case we don't find us in the crowd.

Ok, let's better meet at Mc Donald's because it is easier to find, it's located on the arrival level. If you don't find it then just enter the terminal somewhere on the level "E0" and go to the right side of the terminal, you can't miss it.

Quoting Lt-AWACS (Reply 25):

There is a nice street where you can park for free (when there is space left) but unfortunately I can't find the name of it on any online map, probably because the street is too small. But no problem, just follow the signs to parking lot #23 (it's a long-term parking lot, "Langzeitparken" in German) the entrance to P23 is from the street I mean. Even when you don't find a parking space in the aforementioned small street, simply enter parking lot P23, it is the cheapest around the airport and you only pay a maximum of 5.50 EUR per day. It is approx. 10 minutes by foot from the terminal away and you enter the terminal very close to McD's. My friends and me will park our car there as well.

Quoting MH1402 (Reply 26):

No problem if you are a bit early or late, the same can happen to me, it depends on the traffic situation.

Please check the inbox of the eMail addresses you guys provide in your A.net profile, I'll send you guys an eMail with my cell phone number, feel free to call me in case you don't know where to go or in case you are late, etc.

Damn, it was terrible crowded at DUS today (100.000 people according to the WDR) but fortunately did we get access to the observation deck. Others were not as lucky as we, the observation deck was closed later and nobody got access anymore.

It was a nice day for spotting actually, the weather was ok and not only the A380 was there but also EK 777-300, Atlas Air 747-200, the LTU football logo jets (Bayer Leverkusen and RCD Mallorca), etc. etc.

It was also very nice to meet Tony and Jess (+friend), we had a very nice chat and got good laughs ("Lufthansa sucks") Big grin.

Tony, thanks again for driving us to our car. See you soon in Geilenkirchen!!!

yeah it was nice!!! though a bit cold being as I was dumb and left my jacket in my truck. Thanks for showing us around and for all the help!

I must say it was very interesting and impressive to see the A380 in person. Not the most beautiful plane in the sky IMO but very impressive and quiet too.

The other planes you spoke of were also nice to see. The Emirates 777-300ER was a first for me to see, also the new Aeroflot colour scheme. A very nice, but crowded day!

Nice to hear you had such a nice meeting. I thought about it myself, but since I have my exam in 2 weeks, I think it is time to settle down a little bit...

Instead I saw the "competent" report on WDR. A nice effort, but not really strong on the journalist part  Wink

Hi all... what a great day yesterday. Seeing A380 and my favourite plane of all time B773 from EK. Just finish my classes today.  Smile

It's fascinate me how the engineer made the A380 so big yet so quiet that you dont really notice she make a run on the Runway.

Great to meet you Patrick, Sebastian and Tony. I'll send the picture through your email and do pass me some of yours especially the video of Sebastian.. Wink

Neat. I wish I could have been there with y'all. Did you all go to that visitors terrace or did you watch from somewhere else? I bet the terrace was overcrowded anyway, wasnt it?

We met at 10:30 AM and went (fortunately) directly to the observation deck, we had to wait approx. 45 minutes in a massive queue, but we made it! The obs deck was closed an hour or so later and I heard that many people were very angry because they didn't make it on it.

It was ok, they "only" let 1300 people on it (probably to make sure to evacuate it quickly in a case of emergency) so spotting was no problem.

PS: The Aggies lost, right? We had a nice talk about college football in Texas yesterday. Big grin

Which A.net members took part in this little meet?

Yeah, we did in fact lose. It was a close game though. At least the Longhorns lost as well against Kansas State. That makes the whole situation a little better.

Tony (Lt-AWACS), Jess (MH1402) + a friend from university, and Seb and myself.

Funny, an A.net meeting in Germany and I was the only German A.net member.  Silly

Right, Tony told me that (he's a fan of the Longhorns, even wore a Longhorn cap yesterday).

Bummer, I missed out on the A380 yesterday. I had tickets with Germanwings to MXP for the weekend and well, didn't want the money to go to waste even if I only paid EUR48 r/t.

Anyway, it looks like it was really quite impressive yesterday. I read on NetCologne's homepage LH wanted to do a dry run using DUS as an secondary stop in case FRA ever isclosed for bad weather. The article quotes LH stating they expect this happen a few times a year. So maybe I'll get a chance to see it again in DUS.

BTW...Sabena 332 nice pics!

I didn't take the pics I linked to (I even don't own a camera), these were just the www.planepictures.net "Top of today" (or yesterday meanwhile  Silly).
