Snecma is confident the team producing the Sukhoi Superjet 100 will be in a position to secure Western orders within two years, and expects the non-Russian market to account for the overwhelming majority of sales.
Snecma commercial engines general manager Jean-Pierre Cojan, speaking to ATI at NPO Saturn’s headquarters in Rybinsk, clarified that the programme has received firm orders for 40 aircraft – comprising 30 for Aeroflot and ten for Russian lessor Finance Leasing Company.
“These are firm, with a capital ‘F’,” he says, adding that the manufacturers are “very close” to firming other outstanding agreements.
But Cojan also says that there is strong interest from several Western operators – notably Air France-KLM and SAS Group, and there has been contact with US carriers including Northwest Airlines. British Airways is also among the airlines to which the project is being presented.
“We’ve had more requests for presentations from airlines than we can handle,” claims Cojan.
Start-up leasing company Concord Aviation has identified a strong international market potential for Sukhoi’s SuperJet family, which it says fits neatly in the burgeoning regional aircraft segment.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has bolstered its order book for Russian Regional Jets, freshly rebranded as the SuperJet, by inking an agreement with KrasAir for 30 of the type.
Russian airline alliance AirUnion is carrying out preparatory work over a possible order with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft for a batch of Russian Regional Jets (RRJ).
“It represents the type for which all five member carriers have an acute need,” he adds. “Overall, they could require 20 to 30 RRJs.
