JetBlue At ITH Today

Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:50 am

B6 flew a charter (A320 reg# N565JB) into ITH today. It arrived as #4416 from HPN at 0849L. It departed as #4417 at 1719L back to HPN.

The only reason I can think of for the charter was the Cornell/Dartmouth football game.

I believe this is the first time an A320 has flown into ITH. The bad part of all this...I don't have any pics.

ITH has airstairs for an A320? I don't think that tiny jetbridge can reach a 320?

Not sure if they do or not. I wasn't there but had a family member go to the airport to check it out.

A couple of years ago they had a 737-300 (charter) in there and had no stair truck for the airplane. I believe they used sometype of forklift device to get the passengers out of the airplane.

It still had to be a cool site...B6 at ITH.

It wasn't for the Cornell/Dartmouth game. I saw the football team get on the buses here at Dartmouth to head over to Cornell, in fact.

Interesting. I wonder why it was in ITH then?

Yes, my father said there was a stair truck at the aircraft. Maybe Taughannock Aviation (the only FBO at ITH) purchased a set. None of the airlines at ITH require stair trucks.

The charter was for Cornell Alumni who attended the game. The A/C flew JFK-HPN (White Plains), picked up the 100 alumni, and then flew them to Ithaca and back to White Plains.

Thanks for the info.

I wonder what that cost the alumni? Anyone know how much it costs to charter an A320?

It's almost a sure thing that when you see a jetBlue aircraft at an airport that doesn't normally see service--especially smaller cities like this--it's a college sports team charter. JetBlue does a fair bit of this, I'm noticing.

Damn, a B6 A320 at HPN. I would have loved to see that.

Interesting. US Air had service to ITH with 737s once, right? So could there have been airstairs left over from those days? I remember a Connie in ITH once too, we walked up some stairs to get in it...you wouldn't think it would be too hard to store airstairs, so they would probably still be floating around?

...off topic...

Always nice to hear some news from Ithaca. I grew up there before the fam moved out to SLC, I think I'm going back for a visit next summer. It'll be cool to return to the terminal where I spent so many hours watching CO ATRs and US Air DC-9s...

Wondering why they couldnt do an E190 run instead. 100 passanger for <200 mile round-trip segments.

True statement but it has been years since US flew mainline into ITH. Maybe they left some stairs. I'll ask my father if they where US stairs.

I grew up in ITH also. I spent most of my free time at the airport as a kid. If you are talking about the old terminal it is long gone. They torn it down a few years ago to make room for Taughannock Aviation. If you haven't seen the new terminal it's a nice building. Although you won't get the views we use to have from the old terminal.

My guess is that there were more than 100 passengers?
I don't know how much it costs to charter a plane for a flight like this, but it has to be pretty expensive.
