Star Alliance

Sun Nov 05, 2006 3:30 pm

I have seen many aircrafts that have the Star alliance emblem on the tail and star alliance in written on them ...and then an airline name is written below the large STAR ALLIANCE?

could someone tell me what are these aircrafts ..do they belong to the airline whose name is written in small? If so, then why do they have star alliance written on them?

thanks,
Anirudh

It is part of the deal of belonging to Star Alliance, the airline must have a certain percentage of their fleet painted in the Star logojet colours. So yes they do belong to the airline with the name on the side.

SAA has 2:

AC also has quite a few. IMO they are quite nice. They also used to have a livery that had all of the SA members painted on them. However i am assuming because the large number of member airlines now they changed it. QK also have some.

it's a min of 2% of the airline fleet that has to be painted in star livery, there are a few different star livery's out there but the large star alliance writing, star on the tail and small airline name on the forward fuselage is the current one. SQ apparently refused to put the star on the tail and has logo jets with the large star alliance writing and regular tail, i think thats the only exception to the current livery, but you can still see the older style livery's around the place including the "washing line".

Anyone know when LX is going to get their first Airbus Star Alliance logojet? They only got one and it's a BAe 146.

I hope the first one will be an A330 or A340. Both would look better in those colours than the Avro.

To be correct, LX does not have BAe 146 they fly AVRO RJ 85 and 100 (these are a kind of "BAe 146 NG").
Probably one of the new 332 will be painted in Star livery.

ok heres basically all the STAR schemes (save one)

Original was the 5 color logo jet (AC, LH, UA, SK and TK), only LH had this scheme and it quickly got replaced by the following when RG joined:

Exactly how it was figured out what scheme went in what order im not sure, besides the 1st being the actual operator its almost random.

As more carriers joined... they went to the postage stamp scheme:

As mentioned before, one of the requirements to be a Star Alliance Member Airline is that you have to paint 3% of your fleet in the Star Alliance livery. Those planes do belong to the company operated by (of to the owner where they leased the plane from).

There has actually been talk of yet another Star design with carrier having the option to display their own individually on the tails, however all standard fuselages. If adopted, the promotional change its also likely a much larger percentage of fleets would be painted in the new design as the group wants to "flood" airports with Star planes.
