United VIP Lounge In MSY

Sat Jul 08, 2000 4:38 am

Last time I was walking around good ole MSY, I noticed something which I had not seen before......a small United Airlines VIP Lounge. I'm guessing it is a smaller-sized Red Carpet Club. Does any other airports have these? I did not have a chance to ask an employee about it, as all were busy checking in passengers on flights to IAD, DEN ,and LAX. Hope someone out there can help.

Several airports have smaller Red Carpet Clubs which are not staffed (I know Cleveland is one). You have to get a combination when you check-in to unlock the door. I wasn't aware that UA had any kind of club at MSY (I don't believe it's listed in their timetable).

Stephen,

Well....you saw what used to be the VIP lounge. Unfortunately due to manpower shortages we had to close it. Sad but true. This happened several months ago. We barely have enough to handle the flights that we do have, barring any sick-calls, holidays....etc. So, the VIP lounge was the first to get the axe. The flight crew lounge was moved from downstairs to the former VIP lounge.

As a side note, while realizing the importance of our Premier and 1K customers, we have contracted with Delta to use their Crown Royal room, but as you well know, the MSY airport layout doesn't really make it efficient.

Several times I've closed down our operations at night (about 1:00am) and opened them up the next morning (about 4:30am) and the lounge does have a comfortable sofa thats good for a few hours of nap time.

Delta's Red Carpet Club is currently the only airline VIP room at MSY. In the past, Transtar had a lounge on concourse B near the checkpoint, and Eastern had its Ionosphere Room located roughly behind the existing Air Tran ticket counter.

Most airlines have VIP clubs (usually located at their hubs, and sometimes at their busier outstations), or are linked with them via their alliance arrangements.
