Do these flights even have overhead IFE? Does anyone have a picture of the interior of the Air Zimbabwe 767 and do they have local traffic rights SIN-CAN?

Why do so many african carriers now fly to CAN?

Rather simple. Africa is a huge market and Southern China makes and supplies almost any product in the world.

I wouldn't exactly say that Africa is a "huge" market... Maybe some parts of the continent are doing all right, but.. Must say I don't buy that argument.

However, China is investing and doing a lot of governmental "stuff" in Africa, among other things searching for natural resources (battling with the US..). This could be an important factor.

Of course the flight will only be to Guangzhou on those days that a member of Mugabe's family don't want to go shopping in Paris or Milan  Wink

Amen to that.

Back in '99 Air Zim had to rent an MD-80 to fly us back from HRE to LGW thanks to the royal family. Unfortunately that required a stop in Benin and then Marseille on our way to LGW. But I wouldn't want to inconvenience the man of the people. Each way the load factor was 25% at most.

I can't believe anyone would do any business with these guys any more. Back then the exchange was 27 Zim for $1US. Now they probably have to pay cash to land and tank up their planes. And i'm not talking Zim cash either.

Did some sort of a new megamall open in CAN that Mrs. Mugabe has not yet had a chance to visit?

The B767s UM operates have main-screen video... in both classes.

First of all, it's not a 'royal' family - Mugabe, while governing the country like an emperor, still is 'only' the president.

And he's also been known to not completely hijack a flight, but only most of business class - at least he did on one of my HRE-FRA flights in 2000: half of the cabinet was on board as well, as well as several other government officials, but there were around 120-150 regular pax on board as well.
Smile - it confuses people!

Pardon my ignorance, but didn't UM just place an order for some IL-96-400s?
