Lufthansa And CLT

Tue Nov 07, 2006 9:02 am

I have a couple questions about LH and CLT

-Do they operate FRA with MUN from CLT?
-How are the loads?
-Why CLT, seems like a random city for LH to send a A343?

It's a US Airways hub, so they rely heavily on feed from US Airways flights. There's also a bit of O&D on this route I believe, as there are several German companies with interests with 150 miles of CLT.

I don't know that they operate FRA to CLT, but MUC they do.

LH flys the MUC service to connect 2 large Star Alliance hubs: MUC and CLT. During the winter it is flown 3 times a week. All other seasons it is a daily flight. There is some O&D on this flight as well since CLT has 116 German firms in Mecklenburg County.

LH has been running this flight for about 3 years now...if it wasn't living up to their performance standards they would have killed it by now. I just checked the loads for the flight leaving CLT this Wednesday and it is about 90% full. Pretty good for a midweek flight.

Charlotte is named after Queen Charlotte who was German and was from the German State of Mecklenburg.

I could be wrong as well, but Charlotte is a big banking centre in the South, and any company in the South will most likely do business through Charlotte anyway.

Well I don't know about everybody in the South doing business through Charlotte...maybe Atlanta could get away with that claim...but I don't think Charlotte could.

We are the 2nd largest banking center in the USA after NYC. Bank of America and Wachovia are based here.

BMW's US manufacturing center is in Spartanburg, South Carolina (which isn't far from CLT). That's a major a reason for the CLT-MUC connection.

Just for the record:

LH flies MUC- CLT 343

US flies CLT- FRA 333

Not only this. Germany has some really large investments within the Automotive Industry in the Carolina's. Not only manufactures like
BMW are there, also Tier 1 suppliers including Bosch, Behr etc.
