LTU To Get A340-300s?

Tue Nov 07, 2006 11:39 am

I was just reading in Airliner World and it mentioned that LTU is in talks to take delivery of three A340-300s this summer. Any word on this?

Just a wild guess, but isn't Air Canada set up to start taking delivery of 777s next summer?

There have been rumours about LT acquiring A343s and while they would fit well for routes such as DUS-LAX, I doubt they get them anytime soon.

Yes, I believe so, however, the most likely candidate for AC's A343s is LX, which needs them to consolidate their network.

This is rumored for a long time and I hope this will turn out true very soon.
This might be indeed Virgin Atlantic aircraft.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

This would really rock. Especially if they come from AC, I would take a 1/144 AC A340 kit and the LTU A330 decals, and build myself a model of it.

A fully loaded A340-300 to LAX might have a problem with the DUS runway...
The runway is 3000 meters and maybe a little to short in hot weather.

So departure has to be very early. AB does it in DRS, most flights departs with special permission in the night when the airport is closed.

Just one observation. Isn't it interesting that even though the A343 series is constantly being regarded as inferior to it's closest rival the B777-200. The fact of the matter is that the A340 has no problem in finding a home.

Even the A340-200 series is taken up rather fast.

Wishful thinking to a certain degree. But the 772 is certainly a better twinjet than the A340.

With Austrian, Air Canada and Virgin removing their A340-300's, it has been interesting to see who the first used operators of the A343 are going to be. Cathay may have a few to spare when the 773ER start arriving in Hong Kong.

Though being inferior to its rival, the A343 is still an efficient aircraft, no doubt.

Yes indeed, the only permanently stored frame is a -213X version VIP aircraft...

No. The B772ER carries more payload and burns less fuel than the A343. The market has clearly answered the question about the B772ER's superiority.

Not just a "better twinjet"...

Didn't those SN A343s which flew for LH now go to SW to replace the leased MD-11s?

That's it! I'm a bit late on updating my A340 operators list, that's why I still say they are with LH. Thanks for pointing it out. My main purpose was to let Jfk777 know who the first used A343 operators were.

Cheers.

The A343, if coming, are likely going to be based at MUC due to infrastructural restrictions (RWY length) at DUS.

Just like the A340 is a better quadjet than the 772.

Despite the A343 being a thirstier plane vs the B772, it is still without a doubt a very capable plane.

Would you happen to know what is the current status? Is it expected to be sold? Converted into passenger configuration?

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 11):

No. The B772ER carries more payload and burns less fuel than the A343. The market has clearly answered the question about the B772ER's superiority.

Does the A343X have any advantage vs the 772 (non ER)?

V8-AC3 was once ordered by the Sultan of Brunei and has been stored at HAM for several years.
