Good Business Class Fares To Asia

Tue Nov 07, 2006 3:45 pm

Hey guys, I've read alot of trip reports on this forum and one thing I've always wondered: I always read of people getting these AMAZING deals on flights and I never seem to be able to find them. What is a good website to go to to find cheap fares to Asia from LAX? I'm trying to find a really good discounted business class fare from LAX to Hanoi, Vietnam. I'd prefer to stick to a Star Alliance airline, but that is secondary to price. Currently, I'm booked on SQ LAX-SIN-HAN on Exec Econ/Econ for $1650. I'd happily forfeit that for a bit higher fare in J. I'd only need Business Class on the trans-pacific hop if that makes the ticket cheaper!

Also, what about Business Class tickets ex Asia to LAX? Again, I'd happily fly Y on the intra-Asia connecting leg from Hanoi if it meant a better deal in J from a hub city in Asia to LAX. Help please!

Try contacting a travel agent who will go through a consolidator. You can also look in the Sunday LA Times in the travel section as there should be some adverts for bucket shops. You should be able to find something in the $3000 range if you are booking far enough in advance.

If you travel frequently to Asia then i must suggest you should buy return tickets from there. The same route/ticket will be considerably cheaper if purchased in Asia as opposed to Europe or US.But if you dont travel that frequently then you always risk loosing your return leg as it may expire.Obviously in order to get into this cycle you will have to purchase a ONEWAY ticket to Asia first and then each subsequent time you can buy return tickets from Asia. You can save massive amounts, depending on certain routes.

SQ never has any discounted Business class, or so what I have seen. They have a fixed price per route, not a penny less

Try planetamex.com. They are a consolidator, affiliated with Amex, and get some great business and first class deals. I recently paid $3900 for Business return from LAX-SYD. I bought a few tickets through them, and had been good experience. You also get to keep the FF points!! Ask for Katrina.

I have two links, but never bought with them, so I don't know if they are really competitive (it is one thing advertise low fares, it is another thing really selling tickets with this low fare):

but non on line disponibility,

online disponibility.
Avoid 777 with 3-4-3 config in Y ! They are real sardine cans

Try these sites, they often have good consolidator driven fares

Good luck...

The oldest trick in the book (and you can do this yourself) is to buy a one-way upgradeable fare to Asia in econ, and then a series of deeply discounted one-way or round-trip biz class tix that originate in Asia.

This is especially attractive in Star Alliance now if you are with a FFP (like Mileage Plus) that allows upgrades on Asiana and Thai in B class. Also, B class (if you fly UA at least) usually earns a 50% mileage bonus in Star FFPs as a high-yield thing. So, in every way, you can win.

Some quick tips for you if you decide to do this:

a) BKK is usually the cheapest "normal" point in Asia from which to execute these kinds of itins, both as a purchase location and for a connection. So, you'd book LAX-BKK (then BKK-HAN-BKK on a separate PNR) then BKK-LAX from there.
b) You will probably need to use matrix.itasoftware.com or www.expertflyer.com - be sure to set the purchase city correctly
c) When you are ready to book, an excellent Thai TA is www.charlieconnection.com, but you can book with some airlines by calling their Thai call centers (Thanks, Skype!) or via email/their websites.
d) Make sure you understand all the mileage earning and bag interlining rules between the carriers you are going to use

Note: while some consolidators are reputable shops - and I can't comment on any of these - you need to read all the fine print, including mileage earning, before making a choice. Be very careful!
