SN Brussels A330 Damaged By Loader In Douala

Thu Nov 09, 2006 1:43 am

I retrieved a news item in a Cameroonian newspaper in French and made a summary in English. Here it is:

Monday night (6 November) at Douala airport an FMC baggage loader collided with an SN Brussels A330. The same loader built in 1989 already had an accident with a SWISS airliner on 26 October. Tuesday night (7 November) the Belgian Airbus was still blocked, as mechanics were sent from Brussels on the Air France flight arriving at 19:00.

It will take 10 hours work to repair.

SN Brussels is angry at the airport company ADC. They have to pay for accommodation and meals for their 150 passengers in the best hotels of Douala, and in addition the plane cannot fly revenue passengers to other destinations during the repair works.

Further news: the aircraft, OO-SFN, was flying the route Brussels-Douala-Kinshasa (SN351). The return flight from Kinshasa has been cancelled.

Anyone knows whether the damage was repaired?

Is the driver painting small planes on the door of his truck?
Thanks for the info.

I just got some news from OO-SFN.

The damage seems to be quite important: structural damage, according to the mechanics sent to Douala, meaning important repair and long delays.

CS-TLQ from EuroAtlantic will come to Brussels to replace OO-SFN for the time necessary to repair.

It's not the first time that handling in DLA and NSI makes lots of mistakes. Many people think that this sabotage is intentional to express frustration at the demise of Camair.

Can anyone confirm if the flight SN352 FIH-DLA-BRU landing in BRU this sunday morning is operated by the A330 recently damaged in DLA? It seems that this sunday SN will be operating all its flights to Africa with A330s while flight SN206 from DKR this sunday morning was operated by a 763 from V7 (Air Senegal).

And by the way was the damage caused to OO-SFN?

I don't see much truth in the above comment but if SN Brussels can prove this they can get a lot of money out of this.
