AA Re-starts MIA-MVD

Thu Nov 09, 2006 8:25 am

Hi all. I'm surprised Mark (aka MAH4546) hasn't started a thread about this. AA is restarting their MIA-MVD service three times weekly with a 767 starting November 17, 2006 and running until April 10, 2007. The other weekly flights will continue to operated via EZE, as usual. I would presume the route would be with a 767-300ER, but I'm not sure on the range.

Here's the skeds:

AA989 MIAMVD 2315 1110+1 (135)
AA984 MVDMIA 2320 0525+1 (246)
It's a Great Day for Hockey!

Is AA scheduling all in 772 for the winter?

They re-start it every year in November. The only reason AA has bothered putting out this PR is because it makes it seem like they are "expanding" to the mass media into a new long haul market, even though they aren't.

Actually, American is adding capacity too in the deep South America market. For the winter (South American summer), it is operating double daily 777's from MIA to EZE and switched to a 777 from a 767-300ER on the JFK-EZE route. DFW stays a 763. One MIA flight and the JFK flight go back to 763's in the northern hemisphere summertime.

The one surprise is that the MIA-GRU daytime trip that was going to be cancelled after Nov is actually re-instated for the Dec-Jan period and there will be a total of 4 flight between MIA-GRU 5 days a week...... That´s the first time 4 MIA-GRU flights operate at one time. The added MIA-SCL flight 3 times a week also comes back for the winter season.

MIA-EZE is always a 777 2x during the winter, so not added capacity. However, the change on MIA-EZE is indefinite. It will stay a 777-200ER 2x daily even during the northern summer.

JFK-EZE is seasonal as a 772.

Yup. This year, AA, will at peak, be operating more long-haul South America routes than ever before from Miami:

MIA-GRU: 26x weekly
MIA-GIG: 14x weekly
MIA-EZE: 14x weekly
MIA-LPB-VVI-MIA: 12x weekly
MIA-SCL: 10x weekly
MIA-MVD: 3x weekly

Also, talks continue with airport officials in Asuncion, and, if AA approves a return to Asuncion, AA will inagurate non-stop Miami-Asuncion service with a 763 3x a week in summer 2007. AA is also, apparently, going to ask Brazil's ANAC for an exemption to fly to Recife, Brazil in 2007, but that is not for certain yet.

By "expanding" I was referring to new routes. While MIA-LatAm will see a good amount of extra capacity this winter, it does not reflect expansion by AA overall or new routes, it is simple reallocation of resources from other routes.

AA does very well on the route, the nonstops are pretty full.

Same here.

And the AA MIA-EZE-MVD running daily will be reduced accordinly to 4 weekly. This also means further increase in seat capacity to EZE since 3 weekly flights will terminate in EZE.

The return of ASU in AA network would be materialised in nonstop operations or again via GRU?

MIA-GIG: 14x weekly
MIA-EZE: 14x weekly
MIA-LPB-VVI-MIA: 12x weekly
MIA-SCL: 10x weekly
MIA-MVD: 3x weekly

In the case of GRU and GIG you also have to count on seats which are sold through partner airline JJ. Are all JJ's 3 daily MIA-GRU, daily MIA-GIG (due 2007) and two daily JFK-GRU codeshare with AA?

I think a 752 would also have the legs to fly MIA-MVD non-stop and back. But maybe it will be 767. Has it been confirmed?
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

A 752 barely has the legs to fly it. This route is a 767-300ER, just as it has been for the past two years. And it fills up. Average load factor has been 87%+.

JJ keep 2 GRU-MIA only Hardi, and also 1 MAO-MIA.
They do not offer the code-share on their JFK services as well as MIA daily-light. AA does not offer c/s on GIG-MIA.

AA is taking advantage of the fact last year Varig runs MIA 13x weekly flights during the Brazilian summer. This year Varig is not running this route, so AA has just provide closer to 60% of the RG last year seats. This year was easy to get a January trip for US$ 1,200 on Y or US$ 3,000 on C. In 2007, seems to be impossible, fares are closer to US$ 1,800 for a R/T (Y) or US$ 5,000 (C) on January.
DL gets also a new daily flight during the Brazilian Summer.
