CRJs, Q400s To India

Thu Nov 09, 2006 5:58 pm

Quote:
New Delhi, Nov 07: Canada-based aircraft firm Bombardier is in talks with several Indian carriers to sell its regional jets and turboprop aircraft meant for serving short-haul routes and smaller airstrips.

"We are in advanced stages of discussions with some of these airlines. Our 86-seater Canadian Regional Jet (CRJ) was stationed here for a week in September when we displayed it to our potential customers in India", Bombardier Chairman and CEO Laurent Beaudoin told here.

Any hints from our Indian members who these airlines are apart from Indian Airlines/Alliance Air, who have already stated that they are looking at the CRJ900?

Indus Air is staring operations later this month with a fleet of CRJ-200's. However, the operating economics of small jets will preclude them from too many sales in India. However Bombardier missed out big time with the Q400's surrendering the burgeoning turboprop to ATR which has had massive success in India moving almost 100 frames here!

Does this mean that there will actually be some sales soon, as they are "happily" talking to the press?

Are we talking BIG orders, like 50 x CR9 or Q400 or just 10 here and there?

But Kingfisher placed orders with ATR for 72-500's and was looking at expanding that order.
