Airbus 3000th Set Of A32X Wings Completed.

Sat Nov 11, 2006 3:26 am

Congratulations to Airbus for this magnificent mile stone. I believe that very few people ever believed that the A32X series would make it this far and still going strong.

Airbus has completed its 3,000th set of wings for an A320 Family aircraft. The wing set left Airbus' Broughton, North Wales, U.K. site today, loaded onboard the A300-600ST Beluga, bound for the A320 final assembly line in Toulouse, France. The 3000th Airbus single aisle aircraft will be delivered to the customer airline, Air Asia, in January 2007.

The very first set of A320 family wings was delivered from the U.K. on 30 April 1986. It was eight years later, in December 1994, that the delivery of the 500th set of wings for the variant was celebrated. In less than five years a further 500 wing sets were produced, with the 1,000th set being delivered in April 1999. In under one third of the time, four years, the next 1,000 sets were produced, with the 2000th delivery taking place in April 2003. Now, the next 1,000 wing sets have followed in just 31 months.

Excellent! Airbus is in need of some positive publicity, and they've certainly earned this one. Bravo to them!

That's cool.

I haven't been on an A320 in a while, and was hoping to get a chance this holiday season, but Priceline put me on Delta instead of UA, US or others. 3 757s. Yippee...

I've got a free ticket on F9, so I'll get to fly one again soon.

Good for Airbus, and nice to see some good news. 3000 is an impressive number.

Indeed, cool news. Only the second commercial aircraft in history to reach this number, IIRC

However, I can't help but thinking a better headline would have been to wait until the 3,000 completed aircraft rolls off the assembly line...

Are those 3000 wings for the whole family (A318 19 20 21) or only for the A320 ?

Cheers

no offense, but mom and i think its just plain and boring. the mainline (n/c) gives the A32x a nice cool look to it. id prefer B6's N503JB

None taken. I have never flown B6. I would not mind trying them but from MKE they are not real competitive. Only 2 flights a day.

Formidable. How long does it take from the wings being completed to the plane taking to the air for the 32x?

It rather makes you wonder that BAEs could not show a little more interest in Airbus activities. A 3000 production run is not exactly going to come BAEs way now they have parted ways is it? Surely the success of the 32x and the 330 would have been worth a little more persistence, whatever the problems of Airbus?

Not if BAE had determined that the Airbus dog wouldn't hunt anymore. IMO, BAE gave the Airbus Integrated Company (Airbus SAS) ample time to prove its merit as a portfolio investment; if anything, BAE waited too long to get out. It must be particularly galling that Mr. Forgeard was able to effectively cash-out at the premium BAE sought for its shareholders.

Its very appropriate that someone with the username "WINGS" brought this to our attention!  Wink

Congrats to airbus. This is amazing. Any airframe that breaks 1,000 units is considered a home run success. To break 3,000... just amazing.

Yes, but!!

Yes in that BAE may have seen serious problems. But in that it is hard to believe that they are worse than those faced by Airbus back in its formative years. However difficult the A380 might be, they do have this highly successful A32x program and a not so dusty 330 on to keep things going, if not humming as well as might be. Time will tell. It could look like a sharp idea, or it could look a fairly dumb idea. The UK Treasury will be searching for a larger till as it hears of the 3000th wing set being completed.

Well done Airbus, I've been to the factory in Broughton, had a tour just before the A380 was rolled out to the world.
