First Dba B737-300 In Full Air Berlin Colors

Sat Nov 11, 2006 8:21 pm

The first dba B737-300 (D-ADIA) has received Air Berlin's full livery. The question is whether it also carries the odd "powered by dba" slogan?

And here's the second aircraft, D-ADIB:
http://www.flugzeugbilder.de/show.php?id=553635

It doesn't carry any DBA slogan at all, as far as I can see. I thought it's necessary by law to put a small "operated by" sticker if the aircraft is operated by a different airline than the livery the aircraft is operated in???

Good question - probably someone can elaborate on that. I only hope they won't use anything similar to the awful "powered by Condor" slogan...

That is new to me. But what is the case then when an airline has no markings at all? The C9 735 comes to mind there...

I was interested to see if there would be a DBA sticker by the nose of the plane like there is on the Air Berlin Fokkers which are operated by Germania. Perhaps these have just not yet been applied yet? And most important, will Air Berlin carry on the DBA tradition of giving passengers a heart-shaped chocolate?

D-ADIF, which left the paintshop on Friday:

D-ADIA/B/F have all been painted at IGS, however D-ADIG has been flown to EMA for painting earlier this week.

D-AGPH has been sent to the paintshop today.

I just wonder why they chose for D-AGPH instead of D-AGPP, which looks a bit unprofessionally-repainted at the moment:

I flew on D-ADIB on Monday. Nice on the outside, but the inside looked pretty old. No stickers on the plane though.
What I did find odd though was that they did not say it was an Air Berlin flight powered by dba, which it claimed in Air Berlin's inflight mag. Weird, since it was a sub for a "real" Air Berlin flight with Air Berlin catering.
Where have all the tri-jets gone...

Do not forget all these Fokker 100s in Germany come from the same operator, Germania, anyway... They were used for AB, HLX, DBA and so on. When DBA still served THF, they were both flying F100s with Gexx and DBA scheme there.

The one seen above uses the HLX paint scheme, indeed not really a typical DBA scheme, but a beautiful livery indeed.

I think it is better to save money by not repainting every single week.

They freshened it up a few years ago by replacing the grey with white. I think it is quite a unique colourscheme and rather like it. Much better than what it would probably be if they changed it - white with big 'airberlin.com' titles I bet.

Well it has been leased by HLX as you can see. End of November HLX returned both Fokkers back to the lessor Germania. Germania obviously leased it immediately to dba. So, to answer your question: I don't think it's a short-term lease because HLX won't take them back.

So what is the combined DBA/AB fleet now?

  • 19 F100 (14 ex-DBA, 2 ex-HLX, 3 AB)
  • 15 B733 (ex-DBA)
  • 5 B734
  • 5 B73G
  • 35 B738
  • 4 A319
  • 11 A320

quite a mix if you ask me ...

So you only fly an airline b/c of the paint-sheme? When looking at the pax records AB has every month the sheme can't be too bad. But IMO it looks better on the 737 than on the Airbus fleet.

D-ABAH is still active, D-ABAK and D-ABAL are already registered with BlueBird, D-ABAI is parked at BUD and also destined for BlueBird, D-ABAM is parked at HAM and destined for LAT Charter.

No B734 is flying for AB any longer, so the "active" status of D-ABAH is only an academic value.

According to ATDB it is still active. Would be interesting to know whether it has definitely left the fleet or is still kept as backup aircraft.

Maybe it was planned as such, but it now flies for DBA since more than 2.5 years (with minor interruptions) without ever receiving a German registration. That is what is so strange about it and of course it is the only -500 in the DBA fleet. It belongs to Maersk of Denmark.

Because it's wearing the Hannover Airport sticker it can't be painted in AB livery as I read somwhere.

I have heard that by now. Too bad the 757 would be a nice change and it would have looked pretty good in AB livery. I know this forum and read there occasionally. The administrator of that site has reported a few weeks ago that AB has the option to change some orders for the 737NG into 787s when it is available.....wouldn´t that be nice  Smile

OY-APL has been flying for DBA for over three years now, so it seems that it is a long-term lease now  Smile. It was leased from Maersk together with sistership OY-APK, but that one was returned after less than a year. I heard from several DBA crews that OY-APL is by far their favourite aircraft, but I am not sure why.

I just hope that they repaint D-ADIC soon, that's one of the ugliest liveries I have ever seen.
