PAL A340 At SFO This Weekend

Tue Nov 14, 2006 2:59 am

Noticed a PAL A340 parked Saturday and Sunday off of the international terminal - not sure if it's still there - anyone know what happened?

Did anyone note the registration? It was parked off stand near the car park behind G-BNLU which I flew in on from LHR on the BA285 landing at 1355 local Saturday.

It was most likely a maint. cancellation. When I arrived Sunday morning to catch the 730a AS flight to LAX there were multiple maint. vehicles around it. A-19 and A-17 are used frequently for mechanical-ed A/C. Legacy most likely knows.

Yes, mechanical Friday night. Not sure but I heard they were flying in a part on PR 104 Sunday night. I heard it was not too bad booking them at local Hotels due to the fact most of the passengers were local and some went out on PR 105 Friday night.

The A-340 is F-OHPK & was still at SFO when I passed by at 8AM today.

I saw a private A340 at LAX two days ago. I heard someone said it was the prince of somewhere. About 10 police cars scorted him onto the tarmac, Anybody know???

Juventus, it was probably Saudi ruler Prince Abdullah of Jordan. He travels frequently on his private Airbus A-340.

Decided to swing by Int'l garage A to take a closer look at OHPK.

Laying on the tarmac & propped between the main central landing gear tires appear to be landing gear door panels (but they could also be underbelly panels). Mechanics are working right by this landing gear.

All ten main landing gears are in place and appear properly inflated. Yet, leaning against one of the starboard main landing wheel is an underinflated tire but there is no evidence of a blow-out - unless there is a gash or rip on the other side which was impossible for me to see.

Does anyone have any more specific info about what work is being done on this plane?

Ooops. Strike out the word Saudi.

Back to OHPK, after a closer look at the photos I took, it seems that the flat tire came from the starboard side of the middle main landing gear which now has a tire which looks new (some packing tape or adhesive still sticking onto the exterior sidewalls).

You are talking about Philippine Airlines, no?

I know PR flies twice a week from Manila to SFO (tuesday and friday). Maybe the aircraft were with some technical problems but I don't know.

PR actually flies into SFO 8 times per week. PR 104 comes in daily and PR 114 comes in on Fridays.

Does anyone know when OHPK plane departed SFO? She was still parked there past noon yesterday (11/16/06). Work seemed to have been done & as the tarmac was clear of eqpt & parts. Mechanics were absent but the aluminum ladder from underneath the cockpit area was partially extended toward the tarmac.

Flytecomm does not indicate a PR A340 departure yesterday nor today. Is there a better way to track flights like this?

Thanks.

When I went into SFO this morning at 6:30, it had departed. It probably was a ferry flight back to Manila.
