B6 Trimming Schedule At Burbank

Tue Nov 14, 2006 3:18 am

Apparently B6 was not doing very well at Burbank. I know all airlines are constantly changing their service but it just seems this happens with B6 a lot. Especially if you compare sizes of airlines meaning as a percentage of flights.

Any thoughts on why Burbank was not good for B6?

actually this has been known for a while. loads/yields were poor on the BUR-MCO flight and the BUR-LAS flight is ending because of the MCO flight. the LAS leg was just for a/c utilization (otherwise the plane would've been sitting around doing nothing).

there is lots of potential out of BUR...look at the JFK flts. FLL probably would've been a better move than MCO. but of course the gate space in FLL has issues.

I think that this is an overly-simplistic conclusion. These two "vacationer" routes must not have panned out as well as hoped. However, BUR seems to be the marquee airport on B6 for travel by entertainment industry types. Any time you see a mention of someone in The Business being on a JetBlue flight, it's coming from BUR. I understand that the loads and yields to NYC are very good. It isn't that they're not doing well from BUR -- it's that the type of passenger that they're attracting from BUR isn't flying to Vegas or Orlando...

What's more interesting to me is that it appears that they are dumping the 4pm-ish LGB-JFK flight. That leaves them with 4x BUR and 4x LGB. Woulda thought that LGB would be doing better than that...

This has been known and discussed for awhile now, there is a 100+ reply thread on this.

I hope B6 adds IAD from BUR. I know B6 says it wants to make more short haul flights, but I do not know where they can go short haul from BUR without facing stiff competition from WN. Perhaps BOS is possible, although it is another long haul.

That might be to accomodate the ORD flights.

I don't think that was the specific reason, though it may allow for the ORD flights. The LGB-JFK reduction has been known ever since schedules were released. It isn't that the route isn't doing well - it's actually a great performer for B6 - but instead it's the fact that JetBlue wants to get the highest yields possible out of that market, which is easier for such a route since it is not leisure-oriented.

The BUR-MCO/LAS cuts have been known for awhile now. The BUR-JFK flights, on the other hand, do extremely well.

I'd still like to see BUR-LAS be seasonal, at the least. But that's just me...

I believe this is just a seasonal change. JFK-LGB will probably be around 6x again come summer.

As previously mentioned, BUR-MCO/LAS ending has been announced months ago. BUR-JFK flights do very well!

Hello Blue! Yoohoo. Down here. San Diego calling. Got a plane you need to get to MCO? Only a hundred miles south on I-5 is a nice little airport already served by B6 without a n/s to Florida (and about 356 pax per day O&D wanting to get to MCO!)

just a friendly reminder
thanks for listening
(I hope)
