Air Canada A330-300s

Air Canada received its first Airbus A330-300 last year and I think the first route to get the aircraft was CDG on 18 October 1999 (not sure about the date).

Could anyone tell me on what routes and when the aircraft has expended on the network?
What was its main role (I mean what market slot did it target/what aircraft does it aim at replacing)?
Has it larger or smaller high-yield cabins than the average AC?

I think United Airlines has taken up some of the AC's orders (2 IIRC) and is/will be leasing the aircraft to AC. This was part of the program of the Star Alliance to keep AC with them.

AC also use the A330 to LHR from YYZ, I think.

One more question... Are these A333s fitted with PTVs at every seats?

PTV's are only in Executive First Class on all Air Canada planes, that means 767 and up........

The A330 is used on YYZ-YUL and then on to CDG, as was pointed out earlier it is also used on the YUL-FRA flights YYZ-LHR is rarely an A330 and usually only the eavning flights...the 330 has also been used on YYZ-YVR afternoon runs, but I don't know if they still are...

They are used primarily on trans-atlantic flights. There is almost always one on YUL-CDG.

YYZ-YUL-CDG does not exist anymore at Air Canada. That used to be the 870. Now Air Canada only offers the 880 from Toronto to Paris, which is, by default, the 767. The 870 now runs only out of YUL. That is the A330.

And you can see why. I took the 870 several times. The 870 would leave Toronto almost empty only to fill up with Frenchmen in Montreal. So they figured it made no sense to haul a big jet to, and from, Toronto if it's going to be empty to, and from, Toronto. They did that forever it seems while also running the 880 nonstop from Toronto. Not very efficient.

Alas, if you like to go to Paris from Toronto, you're stuck with the bland 767. No Airbus A330-300 for you.
