Help With Standby On NWA

Thu Nov 16, 2006 3:00 am

I've never done standby before, so I'm not exactly sure how it works. Anyways, on friday I'm set to fly RDU-MSP-PDX leaving RDU in the evening and getting to PDX a little before midnight. I'd like to get back to PDX earlier if at all possible, but the only other NW RDU-MSP flight is early in the morning. That won't work. There is a midday RDU-DTW, then DTW-MSP-PDX flight that would work, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to fly standby for it since it's five hours before my booked flight. Also, I'd like to not waste a day at RDU (already done that once this year), so I'm not sure what to do. Is there any chance that anyone has the load factors on flights 1691 and 595? Should I wait until friday morning, check in online, and look at the standby options, then see if I can switch my cab to the airport?

Any advice would be appreciated. The NW website helped some, but it didn't give me too many details.

In the past I have always called reservations and simply asked what does standby look like? They've been willing to give me suggestions. As for being 5 hours early that doesn't matter; you can get on the list for free anytime on the same day.

Your best source of info is Northwest itself.

I think they offer two types of stand-by options: 1) Pure standby, you wait to see if there is space available for an earlier flight on the same day of original travel - no fee, 2) Confirmed standby, were you pay $25 and can leave upto 3 hours earlier or later than planned for the same day of original travel. (To the best of my knowledge)

However, I don't know if the free standby has any limit on how many hours earlier you can do it.

I would call NWA at 1-800-225-2525, or go to NWA.com

Good luck, and have a great flight.

I think this would be for the same city pairs.

To change city pairs, I think you would have to buy a second ticket and hope the first one could be refunded.

I called and you can switch for same city pairs, but I can't take the early flight. The RDU-DTW flight was an option (I think for $25) until she told me it was full. I'll be staying on my original flights.

Jetjack could you tell me what the standby looks like on Nov 27th MKE-MSP-LAS. I am schedule out MKE-LAS but was wondering how many seats were open from MSP-LAS. I am going to a meeting at the WYNN'S and need to check in and register between 5-7. If there is a open standby seat I would be willling to go Monday morning instead of Sunday night.
Thanks in Advance,
Mark in MKE
